The results showed that there were comparable explantation and complication rates between the two techniques, but one-stage reconstruction required more secondary corrections. Women undergoing prophylactic mastectomy had a significantly higher risk of implant explantation after one-stage reconstruction.

Summary: This study compared the sensory recovery after different breast reconstructions and found no significant differences in sensory recovery between subpectoral implant reconstruction and DTI. However, autologous DIEP flap reconstruction showed better prognosis than prosthesis implant reconstruction. Furthermore, the differences became more apparent when the follow-up length exceeded 12 months. Better breast sensibility was associated with higher patient-reported satisfaction.
