Revision Incidence after Immediate Direct-to-Implant versus Two-Stage Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction Using National Real-World Data

Babette E. Becherer et al.

Summary: In this population-based study in the Netherlands, the incidence of unplanned revision surgery was lower in immediate implant-based breast reconstruction using a direct-to-implant approach compared to a two-stage approach. Additionally, more breasts were reconstructed within the planned number of operations in the direct-to-implant group.

A descriptive comparison of satisfaction and well-being between expander-based and direct-to-implant breast reconstruction after Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy

Summary: There are no differences in satisfaction and well-being between direct-to-implant (DTI) and expander-based (EB) breast reconstruction. However, EB requires more careful counseling by the surgeon.

Risk of breast implant removal after one- versus two-stage breast reconstructive

C. I. J. M. Theunissen et al.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes of one-stage and two-stage implant-based breast reconstruction. The results showed that there were comparable explantation and complication rates between the two techniques, but one-stage reconstruction required more secondary corrections. Women undergoing prophylactic mastectomy had a significantly higher risk of implant explantation after one-stage reconstruction.

Two-stage expander/implant breast reconstruction versus prepectoral breast reconstruction with acellular dermal matrix: a cost analysis

Alessandro Innocenti et al.

Summary: The study found no major differences between the two techniques. The slightly higher cost of prepectoral technique can be justified by the main advantages of reducing hospitalizations and consequently shortening the waiting list for breast reconstruction.

A Comparative Study of Breast Sensibility and Patient Satisfaction After Breast Reconstruction Autologous, 2-Stage Implant-Based, and Prepectoral Direct-to-Implant Reconstruction

Yong-Jae Hwang et al.

Summary: This study compared the sensory recovery after different breast reconstructions and found no significant differences in sensory recovery between subpectoral implant reconstruction and DTI. However, autologous DIEP flap reconstruction showed better prognosis than prosthesis implant reconstruction. Furthermore, the differences became more apparent when the follow-up length exceeded 12 months. Better breast sensibility was associated with higher patient-reported satisfaction.

Surgical complications in immediate and delayed breast reconstruction: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Dany Y. Matar et al.

Summary: The study suggests that immediate breast reconstruction generally increases the risk of complications compared to delayed reconstruction. Further research is needed to determine the role of PMRT and reconstruction surgical technique in the incidence of complications between immediate and delayed reconstructions.

Sub-muscular Reconstruction after NAC Sparing Mastectomy: Direct to Implant Breast Reconstruction with Human ADM Versus Tissue Expander

Rossella Sgarzani et al.

Summary: The study compared the outcomes of direct to implant (DTI) breast reconstruction and two-stage reconstruction after NAC sparing mastectomy, showing that two-stage reconstruction achieved better symmetry and psychosocial well-being, while DTI reconstruction had higher satisfaction in sexual and physical well-being aspects.

Comparison of one-stage direct-to-implant with acellular dermal matrix and two-stage immediate implant-based breast reconstruction-a cohort study

Mette Eline Brunbjerg et al.

Summary: This study compared one-stage immediate implant-based breast reconstruction with two-stage expander-to-implant technique and found that the risk of implant loss was equal between the two groups, but the two-stage group had a higher risk of minor complications. Satisfaction with the aesthetic result and number of aesthetic corrections were similar in both groups.

Biological Matrix-Assisted One-Stage Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction Versus Two-Stage Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction: Patient-Reported Outcomes and Complications

Peng Gao et al.

Summary: This study compared biological matrix-assisted one-stage IBBR with traditional two-stage IBBR in terms of surgical complications and patient-reported outcomes. The results showed that while biological matrix-assisted one-stage IBBR had higher satisfaction levels, it also had a higher rate of minor postoperative complications.

A controlled cost and outcomes analysis of acellular dermal matrix and implant-based reconstruction

Summary: This study demonstrates that using acellular dermal matrix for breast reconstruction can lead to favorable clinical and aesthetic outcomes while reducing the number of surgeries and postoperative visits. Despite the higher cost, it has a positive impact on patient quality of life and appearance.

Summary: This study compared clinical and patient-reported outcomes in one-stage and two-stage implant-based breast reconstructions without acellular dermal matrix (ADM), finding that one-stage reconstruction provides comparable outcomes to two-stage procedures with minimal complications, shorter reconstructive journey, and satisfactory quality of life.
