Stacking- and strain-dependent magnetism in Janus CrSTe bilayer

Qiu-Qiu Li et al.

Summary: Stacking order and strain play a crucial role in tuning the magnetic properties of 2D van der Waals magnetic materials. In this study, we investigated the crystal structure stability of a 2D ferromagnetic Janus chromium dichalcogenide CrSTe bilayer in AB- and AC-stacking orders and found that AB-stacking CrSTe bilayers, with smaller layer spacing and a Curie temperature near room temperature, are more stable. The magnetic ground states, exchange coupling constant, and Curie temperature of the AB-stacking CrSTe bilayer can be controlled by strain.

Enhanced valley splitting of WSe2 in twisted van der Waals WSe2/CrI3 heterostructures

Mei Ge et al.

Summary: Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures composed of different 2D materials provide a convenient way to combine properties of individual materials. Recently, twisted 2D vdW heterostructures have attracted considerable attention due to the discovery of unexpected physical phenomena. In this study, we report enhanced valley splitting in twisted 2D vdW WSe2/CrI3 heterostructures. The splitting value can reach 1200% (or 5.18 meV) of that in a non-twisted heterostructure, which is equivalent to an external magnetic field of about 20 T applied perpendicular to the 2D sheet.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate the modulation of valley splitting in band edges and excitons by tuning the interlayer orbital hybridization in magnetic proximity effect. Additionally, we show that this tuning can be experimentally realized by external strain and electric field.

Electrically switchable valley polarization, spin/valley filter, and valve effects in transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers interfaced with two-dimensional ferromagnetic semiconductors

Ao Zhang et al.

Summary: The study proposes manipulating electron valleys in transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers for spin/valley filter and valve devices through band engineering. Valleys are directly coupled to the spin-polarized states of two-dimensional ferromagnets, resulting in valley-selective gap opening.
