Optimization of high-temperature superconducting bilayer structures using a vortex dynamics simulation

E. Rivasto et al.

Summary: We propose that the current carrying properties of high-temperature superconducting thin films can be enhanced by introducing multilayer structures that balance zero field critical current and vortex pinning performance. In this study, we investigate a simple bilayer structure composed of pure YBCO and BZO doped YBCO under a mid-field range magnetic field. Our computational model reveals that the optimized bilayer structure can have up to 50% higher current carrying capability compared to single layer films. The results provide a foundation for future experimental realization of the proposed bilayer structures and further study of vortex interactions.

Improved Crystalline Quality and Self-Field Jc in Sequentially Vacuum-Multilayered YBCO Thin Films on Buffered Metallic Templates

M. M. Aye et al.

Summary: The effect of in situ vacuum treatment during the growth of YBCO thin films by pulsed laser deposition is studied. It is found that the vacuum treatment reduces the formation of structural defects along the c-axis, resulting in improved structural properties and a 40% increase in self-field critical current density. Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations suggest that desorption of weakly bound atomic species from the film surface during the vacuum treatment improves the crystalline quality of each sublayer, reducing the probability of defect formation during subsequent ablation intervals.

Strongly Enhanced Growth of High-Temperature Superconducting Films on an Advanced Metallic Template

Mukarram Z. Khan et al.

Summary: We have demonstrated a simple and easily applied technique for improving the quality of BaZrO3 doped YBa2Cu3O6+x films on a commercially used buffered metallic template. By reducing the grain size of the target material, we have prevented the transfer of harmful grain boundaries or weak links from the substrate to the deposited film. Additionally, we have observed a significant improvement in the self-assembly of BaZrO3 dopants, resulting in a 40% increase in critical current density in the high temperature range. Our method also allows for a 25% increase in film growth rate.

Roles of electron mean free path and flux pinning in optimizing the critical current in YBCO superconductors

P. Paturi et al.

Summary: We present a method to achieve the maximum critical current density, J(c), for YBa2Cu3O6+x (YBCO) thin films. By optimizing both the mean free path and the flux pinning structure, the maximum values can be reached.

Multifilamentary coated conductors for ultra-high magnetic field applications

A. C. Wulff et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the importance of filamentization in high-temperature superconducting coated conductors (CCs) for ultra-high field applications. Filamentizing the superconducting layer can effectively reduce superconducting screening currents, but it is crucial to consider induced coupling currents and potential current paths between filaments. Studies have shown the need to address screening currents in mechanical design, with multifilamentary CCs proposed as a viable solution.

Ultra-fast growth of cuprate superconducting films: Dual-phase liquid assisted epitaxy and strong flux pinning

Yue Wu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the ultra-high growth rate of dual-phase cuprate superconducting film and its impact on performance and behavior under magnetic fields. By investigating the epitaxial growth mechanism and defect structure, the dominant mechanism of weak J(c) anisotropy is confirmed. The research provides important insights for significantly improving production efficiency of future high temperature superconductors.
