Defects and failure types of solid insulation in gas-insulated switchgear: In situ study and case analysis

Yunqi Xing et al.

Summary: Gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) is widely used in modern ultra-high voltage systems, but its fully enclosed feature poses challenges in diagnosis and maintenance when failures occur. Understanding the commonly existing defects in insulators is necessary and important, especially as the failure rate of GIS due to insulator defects has been increasing in recent years. This study provides valuable insights for engineers and scientists studying GIS solid insulation defects and their failure mechanisms.

Insulating materials for realising carbon neutrality: Opportunities, remaining issues and challenges

Chuanyang Li et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the novel energy structure revolution and the construction of the future energy structure in the context of the 2050 carbon-neutral vision, which is based on equipment innovation. It focuses on the challenges and opportunities faced by insulation materials, which are the core of electrical power equipment and electrified transportation assets. The engineering challenges constrained by the insulation system in future electric power equipment/devices and electrified transportation assets are investigated. Various types of insulating materials are categorized and discussed in terms of their scientific issues, opportunities, and challenges under the goal of carbon neutrality. This paper aims to provide insights into the design and reliability challenges of insulations in electrical equipment and electric vehicles in the context of carbon neutrality policies, as well as to contribute to the development and research of novel insulating materials that promote the realization of the carbon-neutral vision.

Revealing the active sites of the structured Ni-based catalysts for one-step CO2/CH4 conversion into oxygenates by plasma-catalysis

Jiangwei Li et al.

Summary: The study focused on the performance of nickel-based catalysts in the plasma-catalyzed conversion of CO2/CH4 into liquid chemicals. It was found that Ni/NF and NiGa/NF showed high selectivity and activity, while NiO/NF exhibited comparable activities for CH3OH and CH3COOH. NiAl-LDH/NF showed the highest CH3OH selectivity and resistance to carbon deposition.
