The structural, magnetic, and pressure-induced elastic predictions of ZrPd2O4 oxide spinel via GGA, GGA plus mBJ, and GGA plus U approximations

Evren G. Ozdemir et al.

Summary: ZrPd2O4 oxide spinel is a magnetic semiconductor material with both up and down spin characters. The different calculation approximations affect the semiconductor band gaps, with the largest difference obtained using the GGA + mBJ approach. The application of U values based on Coulomb interaction parameters increases the band gaps and equilibrium lattice parameters.

Investigation of X2CdS4 (X=Dy, Tm) spinels for energy harvesting and spintronic applications

Ifrah Tariq et al.

Summary: The structural, electronic, magnetic, optical, and thermoelectric features of X2CdS4 (X = Dy, Tm) spinels were investigated using the FP-LAPW method based on density functional theory. Both spinels are semiconductors with appropriate band gaps, and they exhibit maximum photon absorption in the ultraviolet area, making them suitable for optical applications. The calculated magnetic moments and TE features suggest their potential applications in spintronic and TE devices.

Room temperature ferromagnetism and thermoelectric behavior of calcium based spinel chalcogenides CaZ2S4 (Z = Ti, V, Cr, Fe) for spintronic applications

Q. Mahmood et al.

Summary: The electronic, magnetic, and thermoelectric properties of CaZ(2)S(4) (Z = Ti, V, Cr, Fe) have been comprehensively explored. The stability of the ferromagnetic state has been confirmed by optimizing structures and calculating the enthalpy of formation. The study shows that these compounds exhibit half metallic ferromagnetism and high spin polarization. The thermoelectric properties of the compounds have also been studied.

Analysis of Mg-based spinels MgGd2X4 (X = S, Se) for spintronic and thermoelectric device applications: Ab-initio calculations

N. A. Noor et al.

Summary: In this study, the spin-dependent magnetic, thermoelectric, and electronic characteristics of Mg-based spinels MgGd2X4 (X = S, Se) were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The stability of the structures in the ferromagnetic (FM) phase was confirmed through energy difference calculations and thermodynamic stability was determined through calculation of formation energies and phonon dispersion spectra. Elastic characteristics were analyzed using the Charpin method, and substantial hybridization at the Fermi level was observed. Finally, the study concluded that the investigated spinels can be used in thermoelectric devices.

Structural, electronic, magnetic and optical properties of AB2O4 (A = Ge, Co and B = Ga, Co) spinel oxides

Muhammad Amir Rafiq et al.

Summary: Various spinel oxides including GeGa2O4, CoGa2O4, GeCo2O4, and CoCo2O4 have been studied for their structural, magnetic, optical, and electronic properties using density functional theory calculations. Among these oxides, CoGa2O4, GeCo2O4, and CoCo2O4 show 100% spin-polarization and stable cubic structure in the ferromagnetic phase, indicating potential integration in magnetic-semiconducting devices. The results also suggest that Co occupancy in the GeGa2O4 lattice has significant effects on its electronic, magnetic, and optical behaviors.

The magnetic, electronic, optical, and structural properties of the AB2O4 (A = Mn, Fe, co; B = Al, Ga, In) spinels: Ab initio study

V. S. Zhandun

Summary: This study investigated the impact of cation composition on the properties of spinel oxides AB2O4, revealing their magnetic, electronic, optical, and structural characteristics. The ability to manipulate these properties is attributed to the different energies and sizes of the B-site cations. Antiferromagnetism and composition-dependent bandgap were observed in the studied spinels.

The impact of highly paramagnetic Gd3+ cations on structural, spectral, magnetic and dielectric properties of spinel nickel ferrite nanoparticles

Asima Anwar et al.

Summary: In this study, Gd3+ substituted nickel spinel ferrite (NiGdxFe2-xO4) nanoparticles were successfully fabricated and characterized via XRD, FESEM, and EDX spectrographs. The dielectric properties were explained using Debye-relaxation theory and Koop's model. The magnetic parameters variations were attributed to rare earth cations substitutions and other factors like spin canting and exchange energy. The low coercivity values suggest potential applications of NiGdxFe(2-x)O(4) nanoparticles in high-frequency data storage devices.
