Solvent effects on the heterogeneous growth of TiO2 nanostructure arrays by solvothermal synthesis

Xingxu Lu et al.

Summary: TiO2 nanoarrays grown heterogeneously on substrate surfaces prefer solvents with moderate dielectric constants, which can be partially dissolved in aqueous solution and modulate reaction rates during solvothermal synthesis. Organic solvents with low dielectric constants may lead to a complete separation between precursors and aqueous solution, slowing down the overall reaction and causing insufficient growth of nanoarrays. The optimal morphology for TiO2 nanoarrays, with high specific surface areas and including cordierite substrate, is achieved through a combination of 2-butanone and titanium (IV) butoxide as solvent and precursor, respectively.

Photocatalytic degradation of flumequine by N-doped TiO2 catalysts under simulated sunlight

Xiaolan Zeng et al.

Summary: In this study, three N-doped TiO2 photocatalysts were synthesized for the degradation of Flumequine (FLU), with the TiO2/AN sample showing the highest photocatalytic performance under simulated sunlight irradiation, achieving a 100% removal efficiency of FLU after 4 hours. Photogenerated holes and hydroxyl radicals were identified as the main reactive species, with the detection of eight intermediates for FLU degradation. This research may have significant implications for further studies on the removal of fluoroquinolone antibiotics in wastewater.
