Titania-Morphology-Dependent Pt-TiO2 Interfacial Catalysis in Water-Gas Shift Reaction

Yunshang Zhang et al.

Summary: The morphology of the TiO2 support strongly influences the interfacial catalysis of Pt-TiO2 for the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction. Pt/TiO2{001} catalyst exhibits fewer surface oxygen vacancies and consequently active Pt-Ov,TiO2 interfacial ensemble sites compared to Pt/TiO2{100} and Pt/TiO2{101} catalysts, resulting in lower catalytic activity.

Synergistic enhancement of solar H2O2 and HCOOH production over TiO2 by dual co-catalyst loading in a tri-phase system

Bowen He et al.

Summary: The dual cocatalysts (Pt and Co polyoxometalate (POM)) modified TiO2 was synthesized to enhance the production of H2O2 and HCOOH. The oxo-bridged POM facilitates H2O2 desorption and retards decomposition, while the deposited Co POM acts as a photoelectron reservoir and electron transfer bridge to metallic Pt. Polystyrene (PS) spheres enable the photocatalysts to float on the liquid surface for better light utilization and contact with reactants.

Engineering defects in TiO2 for the simultaneous production of hydrogen and organic products

Jiajun Zhang et al.

Summary: Photoreforming ethanol over defected TiO2 enables simultaneous generation of hydrogen and value-added organic products. The induced defects enhance light absorption and charge separation, improving overall photoactivity. They also regulate product selectivity, leading to higher hydrogen purity and liquid to gaseous carbon ratio. The work presents a sustainable energy approach by combining photocatalysis with waste organic utilization.

Inorganic Metal-Oxide Photocatalyst for H2O2 Production

Linxi Wang et al.

Summary: Hydrogen peroxide is a versatile oxidizing agent used in various applications, with its production via anthraquinone oxidation process being considered inefficient and environmentally unfriendly. Photocatalytic production of H2O2 using inorganic metal oxide semiconductors is a green and cost-effective alternative, although productivity is still a challenge in laboratory research. Efforts are being made to enhance the photocatalytic activity for H2O2 production, with modifications and quantification methods being explored for future advancements in this field.

Role of Water in Methanol Photochemistry on TiO2 Nanocrystals: An In Situ DRIFTS Study

Cong Fu et al.

Summary: The effects of adsorbed water on methanol photochemistry on TiO2 surfaces are investigated in this paper. It is found that adsorbed water competes with methanol for surface sites and promotes the decomposition of methanol through surface OH groups. The surface OH groups can trap photoexcited electrons and participate in photocatalytic reactions of methanol. In the presence of O-2, adsorbed water mainly affects the photocatalytic oxidation of methanol by influencing the adsorption of methanol and O-2. These results reveal the complex nature of the influence of adsorbed water on methanol photochemistry on TiO2 surfaces.

Dynamics of Photogenerated Charge Carriers in Inorganic/Organic S-Scheme Heterojunctions

Linxi Wang et al.

Summary: By studying the behavior of photogenerated charge carriers in a heterojunction, we found that interfacial charge transfer in the step-scheme heterojunction occurs on a shorter time scale than recombination, leading to efficient charge separation. The charge-discharge property of polydopamine induces electron backflow, which is detrimental to practical photocatalytic applications. The composite showed higher photocatalytic H2O2-production activities due to faster H2O2 formation and suppressed H2O2 decomposition.

Elevating Photooxidation of Methane to Formaldehyde via TiO2 Crystal Phase Engineering

Yuheng Jiang et al.

Summary: In this study, the crystal phase engineering of commercially available TiO2 catalyst was optimized to achieve high efficiency and selectivity in the oxidation of methane to formaldehyde under mild conditions. Experimental results and theoretical calculations revealed that crystal phase engineering prolonged the lifetime of photogenerated carriers and promoted the formation of intermediate methanol species, thus maximizing the efficiency and selectivity of formaldehyde production. Moreover, the feasibility of large-scale formaldehyde production was demonstrated by inventing a pause-flow reactor.
