Flat-Band-Induced Anomalous Anisotropic Charge Transport and Orbital Magnetism in Kagome Metal CoSn

Hao Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, the emergence of flat-band-dominated anomalous transport and magnetic behaviors in a paramagnetic kagome-lattice compound, CoSn, was demonstrated. The existence of a kagome-lattice-derived flat band was confirmed through measurements and calculations. The resistivity within the kagome lattice plane was found to be significantly larger than the interplane resistivity, and the magnetic susceptibility under the out-of-plane magnetic field was much smaller due to the introduction of unique orbital diamagnetism. These anomalous and giant anisotropies were attributed to the properties of flat-band electrons, such as large effective mass and self-localization of wave functions.

Bandgap of two-dimensional materials: Thorough assessment of modern exchange-correlation functionals

Fabien Tran et al.

Summary: In this study, various DFT approximations were evaluated for their accuracy in predicting bandgaps of two-dimensional materials. The GLLB-SC potential and mTASK functional were found to provide bandgaps closest to G(0)W(0). The MBJ potential showed good accuracy comparable to the more expensive HSE06 functional.

Magnetic Archimedean Tessellations in Metal-Organic Frameworks

Hua Chen et al.

Summary: The self-assembly of lanthanide ions with ditopic organic spacers leads to complex tiling patterns mimicking the structural motifs of quasi-periodic 2D materials. The linking of trans-{LnI(2)}(+) nodes by 4,4'-bipyridine results in rare examples of Archimedean tessellations in metal-organic frameworks, demonstrating significant magnetic exchange interactions and slow relaxation of magnetization behavior. The implementation of Archimedean tessellations in lanthanide(III) coordination solids provides a strategy to design elusive quasi-periodic metal-organic frameworks with inimitable magnetic properties.

Unconventional chiral charge order in kagome superconductor KV3Sb5

Yu-Xiao Jiang et al.

Summary: The study reveals an unconventional chiral charge order in KV3Sb5, a material with both a topological band structure and a superconducting ground state, using high-resolution scanning tunnelling microscopy. A 2 x 2 superlattice structure is observed in the experiment, along with an energy gap opening and charge modulation across the Fermi level.
