Amplified Overhauser DNP with Selective Deuteration: Attenuation of Double-Quantum Cross-Relaxation

Ravi Shankar Palani et al.

Summary: In this study, selective 2H labeling of BDPA was utilized to investigate the dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) mechanism of the Overhauser Effect (OE) in insulating solids. It was found that the alpha and gamma 1H spins on the fluorene rings were responsible for generating a positive bulk polarization, while the phenyl 1H spins contributed negative enhancements that attenuated the OE-DNP. Phenyl-d5-BDPA showed over 50% improvement in OE-DNP enhancement compared to h21-BDPA, achieving a maximum of approximately 90 at 14.1 T and 5 kHz MAS.

Dynamic nuclear polarization with trityl radicals

Ravi Shankar Palani et al.

Summary: In this paper, the DNP frequency profiles of trityl radicals OX063 and OX071 are investigated in glycerol and DMSO matrices. A dispersive shape is observed in the H-1 Zeeman field, with larger effects in DMSO. Direct DNP observations on C-13 and H-2 nuclei reveal a weak nuclear Overhauser effect and propose a new mechanism, resonant mixing, as the cause of the dispersive shape.

Frequency-swept dynamic nuclear polarization

Michael Mardini et al.

Summary: Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) enhances the sensitivity of NMR spectroscopy by transferring electron polarization to nuclei using microwaves. The current microwave sources for DNP, such as continuous-wave gyrotrons and solid-state oscillators, have limitations that hinder the development of new mechanisms.

1H detection and dynamic nuclear polarization-enhanced NMR of Aβ1-42 fibrils

Salima Bahri et al.

Summary: Magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectroscopy has been widely used to study the high-resolution structures of amyloid-beta (A beta) and other fibrils, but it suffers from low sensitivity. In this study, the drawbacks of MAS NMR were overcome by using two relatively recent techniques: H-1 detection and dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). The results showed improved sensitivity and allowed for nearly complete resonance assignment and structural analysis of A beta fibrils.

Enhanced spatial resolution in magnetic resonance imaging by dynamic nuclear polarization at 5 K

Hsueh-Ying Chen et al.

Summary: The spatial resolution of MRI is limited by signal detection sensitivity, but can be improved by performing measurements at low temperature and using dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) technique. This allows for higher resolution and shorter data acquisition times, offering a promising direction for high-resolution MRI studies.

Integrated, Stretched, and Adiabatic Solid Effects

Yifan Quan et al.

Summary: This paper presents a theory describing the dynamic nuclear polarization process associated with an arbitrary frequency swept microwave pulse. The theory is verified with experiments and explains the integrated solid effect, stretched solid effect, and adiabatic solid effect. It shows that the stretched solid effect and adiabatic solid effect can be more efficient than the integrated solid effect. The theory also predicts that the efficiency of the stretched solid effect improves at high magnetic fields.

Overhauser Dynamic Nuclear Polarization with Selectively Deuterated BDPA Radicals

Leo Delage-Laurin et al.

Summary: In this study, the role of hyperfine couplings in BDPA radicals was investigated using EPR and DNP measurements. The results demonstrate that deuterating the fluorene moieties can change the polarity enhancement of the Overhauser effect.

Mixed-Valence Compounds as Polarizing Agents for Overhauser Dynamic Nuclear Polarization in Solids**

Andrei Gurinov et al.

Summary: A novel set of polarizing agents - mixed-valence compounds have been investigated through theoretical and experimental methods, showcasing their performance in high-field dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) NMR experiments in the solid state. These compounds, with molecular mobility persisting even in solids, can be used to conduct Overhauser-DNP experiments in the solid state, providing favorable conditions for dynamic nuclear polarization formation at ultra-high magnetic fields.

Direct measurement of the triple spin flip rate in dynamic nuclear polarization

W. Th Wenckebach et al.

Summary: The effect of Gadolinium doping on the dynamic polarization (DNP) of C-13 has been studied, revealing that the rate at which polarization builds up is largely independent of the Gadolinium concentration. On the other hand, the electron spin-lattice relaxation rate varies significantly. The analysis indicates that DNP in this case is primarily due to the cross-effect (CE) and the build-up rate is a direct measurement of the triple spin flip rate responsible for the CE.
