Liquid metal for high-entropy alloy nanoparticles synthesis

Guanghui Cao et al.

Summary: High-entropy alloy nanoparticles (HEA-NPs) with different metal elements were synthesized using liquid metal with negative mixing enthalpy as a dynamic mixing reservoir, enabling the exploration and optimization of their properties for various applications. The versatile elements used have a wide range of atomic radii and melting points. The real-time conversion process from liquid metal to crystalline HEA-NPs was captured in situ, confirming a dynamic fission-fusion behavior during alloying.

Liquid-Metal-Enabled Mechanical-Energy-Induced CO2 Conversion

Junma Tang et al.

Summary: This green carbon capture and conversion technology uses liquid gallium to reduce CO2 into solid products and O-2 at near room temperature, driven by mechanical energy. With a gallium/silver fluoride mix at 7:1 mass ratio, it achieves 92% efficiency in capturing and converting a tonne of CO2 at a remarkably low input energy of 230 kWh. Overall, this technology offers an economical solution for reducing CO2 emissions.

Low-temperature liquid platinum catalyst

Md Arifur Rahim et al.

Summary: Understanding the interactions between metal and matrix in metal-matrix catalytic systems can enhance the catalytic activity of isolated metal atoms. In this study, it was found that a trace amount of platinum dissolved in liquid gallium can drive catalytic reactions with enhanced kinetics at low temperature. Molecular simulations showed that the platinum atoms remained unchanged in the gallium matrix and activated the surrounding gallium atoms for catalysis. The liquid catalyst system exhibited significantly higher activity compared to existing solid platinum catalysts, setting a foundation for future exploration of high-throughput catalysis.
