The thermodynamical and optical properties of surface bromine vacancy in two-dimensional CsPbBr3: A first principles study

Beichen Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of surface Br vacancy in 2D CsPbBr3 using first principles methods, and specifically studies the optical transitions associated with the vacancy. The results show that as the thickness of 2D CsPbBr3 increases, the defect level and charge transition energy level become shallower. However, the surface Br vacancy may not have a significant impact on the luminescence spectrum due to strong lattice relaxation.

Highly efficient and stable ZnO-based MA-free perovskite solar cells via overcoming interfacial mismatch and deprotonation reaction

Gengling Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, aluminium-doped zinc oxide modified by polydopamine is found to be an effective electron transport layer for perovskite solar cells. It optimizes interfacial contact, inhibits detrimental interfacial reactions, and passivates surface defects. It also induces the growth of perovskite grains, releases lattice strain, and inhibits deprotonation reactions, resulting in high power conversion efficiency.

Origin of open-circuit voltage reduction in high-mobility perovskite solar cells

Hyuna Lee et al.

Summary: This article provides a new insight into the charge-carrier mobility in perovskite solar cells using experimentally calibrated numerical simulations. It is found that increasing the mobility substantially improves the short-circuit current, but simultaneously decreases the open-circuit voltage, resulting in efficiency roll-off in the high-mobility regime. The increased bending of potential profiles and decreased electric field due to carrier diffusion are identified as the key mechanisms behind this behavior, providing a theoretical guideline for material and device engineering.

Attributes of High-Performance Electron Transport Layers for Perovskite Solar Cells on Flexible PET versus on Glass

Marwa Dkhili et al.

Summary: This study investigates the application of different types of ETLs in flexible solar cells, finding that ETLs specifically developed for plastic substrates are needed to achieve high efficiency. Among all the ETLs, the ZnO/SnO2 double layer exhibits the highest average power conversion efficiency. Additionally, single ETLs made of SnO2 nanoparticles are more stable and efficient than those made from a liquid precursor. The study also highlights the importance of high shunt resistances and lower recombination currents in achieving high efficiency in flexible devices. Moreover, the wetting behavior of the ETL surfaces significantly affects the performance of the device, with better wetting leading to higher-quality layers and interfaces.

Perovskite solar cells with atomically coherent interlayers on SnO2 electrodes

Hanul Min et al.

Summary: By introducing an interlayer between the electron-transporting and perovskite layers in perovskite solar cells, researchers have successfully enhanced charge extraction and transport from the perovskite, leading to higher power conversion efficiency and fewer interfacial defects. The coherent interlayer allowed the fabrication of devices with a certified efficiency of 25.5%, which maintained about 90% of its initial efficiency even after continuous light exposure for 500 hours. The findings provide guidelines for designing defect-minimizing interfaces in metal halide perovskites and electron-transporting layers.

Revealing Charge Carrier Mobility and Defect Densities in Metal Halide Perovskites via Space-Charge-Limited Current Measurements

Vincent M. Le Corre et al.

Summary: Space-charge-limited current (SCLC) measurements are widely used to study charge carrier mobility and trap density in semiconductors, but their application to metal halide perovskites is complicated by the mixed ionic and electronic nature of these materials. The presence of mobile ions strongly affects the measurements, requiring a refined analysis and interpretation of SCLC. Pulsed SCLC, combined with drift-diffusion simulations, offers a reliable method for simultaneously extracting mobility, trap, and ion densities in perovskite semiconductors.

Slow Hot-Carrier Cooling Enabled by Uniformly Arranging Different-n-Value Nanoplates in Quasi-2D Perovskites through Long-Range Orbit-Orbit Interaction toward Enhancing Photovoltaic Actions

Jia Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper reports a slow hot-carriers cooling process enabled by uniformly arranging different-n-value nanoplates in quasi-2D perovskites. The long-range orbit-orbit interaction provides the necessary condition to enable the unusual long-order electron-lattice coupling for a slow hot-carrier cooling effect through energy-momentum dispersion curvature within the crystalline lattice. With the slow hot-carrier cooling and long-range orbit-orbit interaction, the quasi-2D perovskite demonstrates superior carrier transport shown by high fill-factor values (>80%) with reduced photovoltaic loss in solar cells.

Optical features of PbBr2 semiconductor thin films for radiation attenuation application

O. G. Torres et al.

Summary: This work reports the synthesis and optical characterization of semiconductor thin film lead bromide (PbBr2) synthesized by thermal evaporation, discussing its potential applications in UV and ionizing radiation attenuation. Experimental studies using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy showed the quality of the samples, while diffuse reflectance and transmittance spectroscopy experiments revealed a weakly semiconductor optical gap of 3.5 eV, indicating potential applicability in medical diagnostic and treatment equipment design involving ionizing radiation. High transparency of the thin film was also confirmed, suggesting potential applications in microelectronic devices.
