Tunable angle-dependent electrochemistry at twisted bilayer graphene with moire flat bands

Yun Yu et al.

Summary: This study reports a strong twist-angle dependence of heterogeneous charge transfer kinetics at twisted bilayer graphene electrodes, with the greatest enhancement observed near the 'magic angle'. The variation in electrochemical activity is controlled by the structural relaxation of the moire superlattice at twist angles of <2 degrees and the presence of 'topological defect' AA stacking regions.

Piecewise nonlinearity and capacitance in the joint density functional theory of extended interfaces

Tobias Binninger

Summary: The ab initio simulation of charged interfaces in the density functional theory framework is widely used in the study of electrochemical energy conversion processes. Capacitance is the primary descriptor for the response of the electrochemical interface. The author finds an exact relationship between energy curvature and the Kohn-Sham density of states, local density of states, and Fukui potential, resolving the conflict with the piecewise linearity principle in DFT.
