Density functional theory study of NO-H2O coadsorption on Cu(111)

Thanh Ngoc Pham et al.

Summary: This study investigates the coadsorption and complex formation of nitric oxide (NO) and water (H2O) on Cu(111) using theoretical methods. The results show that mixed nNO-mH(2)O complexes on Cu(111) are more stable than separated NO and H2O clusters due to attractive NO-H2O and NO-NO interactions. Hydrogen bonding and NO-NO interaction play crucial roles in the coadsorption.

Partial reduction of NO to N2O on Cu{311}: role of intermediate N2O2

Krit Sitathani et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the adsorption and reaction of NO on the Cu{311} surface using a combination of experimental and theoretical methods. Our results reveal that N2O is formed via the intermediate species N2O2, and the surface is progressively poisoned by the accumulation of oxygen atoms during the reaction. The sustained conversion of NO to N2O on Cu is contingent upon finding a co-reactant capable of continuously removing oxygen from the surface.

Adsorption of CO2 on Terrace, Step, and Defect Sites on Pt Surfaces: A Combined TPD, XPS, and DFT Study

YeeJie Wong et al.

Summary: The study revealed that CO2 adsorption on Pt surfaces occurs at terrace, step, and defect sites with different energies, and is more stable at higher coverage due to lateral attractive interactions between CO2 molecules. The experimentally measured adsorption energies of CO2 on Pt were successfully reproduced using various functionals in density functional theory calculations.

Dry Reforming of Methane on Cobalt Catalysts: DFT-Based Insights into Carbon Deposition Versus Removal

YeeJie Wong et al.

Summary: This research used density functional theory to study the reactions of CO2 with C* on various surfaces of cobalt nanoparticles, revealing a preference for C-C coupling as the origin of carbon graphitization. The significant difference between cobalt and nickel in terms of carbon deposition was attributed to CO2 activation, with cobalt being more favorable for this activation. Suggestions were made for using high-index-faceted, surface-modified, and/or promoted cobalt nanoparticles to restrict C-C coupling in dry reforming of methane reactions.

Oxidative etching mechanism of the diamond (100) surface

John Isaac Enriquez et al.

Summary: A study of diamond oxidation mechanism revealed that oxygen adsorption causes C-dimer bond breaking, with the formation of ether chains at higher surface coverage. CO desorption creates point defects that determine preferred etching direction and surface reconstruction. The research provides insights into the atomic-level processes involved in diamond oxidative etching.
