Design and Fabrication of Hypercrosslinked Covalent Organic Adsorbents for Selective Uranium Extraction

Ran Leng et al.

Summary: In this study, amidoxime-functionalized tetrafluoroterephthalonitrile (TFTPN) crosslinked with hydroquinone (bP), phloroglucinol (tP), and 4,4',4''-trihydroxytriphenylmethane (tBP) were used to fabricate three covalent organic polymers (COPs) bPF-AO, tPF-AO, and tBPF-AO with different crosslinked architectures. These COPs showed excellent performance in uranium extraction and detection, as well as notable physicochemical stability and recyclability. Moreover, the PAE-based COPs can be derived from inexpensive industry materials with easy processing methods.

Peroxydisulfate activation by a versatile ball-milled nZVI@MoS2 composite: Performance and potential activation mechanism

Xiumei Song et al.

Summary: A series of nZVI@MoS2 composites were successfully synthesized through ball-milling, and their catalytic activity for SMX degradation was found to be significantly higher than that of nZVI, MoS2, and physically mixed nZVI/MoS2. The ball-milling treatment exposed the inner core of nZVI and created more S-vacancies, leading to the conversion of Fe(III) to Fe(II). Additionally, reductive sulfur species also contributed to the regeneration of Fe(II).

Refractory organics removal in PMS and H2O2/PMS oxidation system activated by biochar/nZVI/MoS2 composite: Synthesis, performance, mechanism and dosing methods

Hao Sun et al.

Summary: A biochar composite loaded with nZVI particles and MoS2 nanosheets (nZVI/MoS2-BC) was prepared and used for efficient activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade refractory organics. The interaction between nZVI and MoS2 increased the reaction sites and improved the dispersing of nZVI on the biochar surface. PMS activated by nZVI/MoS2-BC produced reactive oxygen species (ROSs) to degrade pollutants. The increased specific surface area and electrical conductivity facilitated the electron transfer and enhanced the pollutant degradation.

Zhengfeng Hu et al.

Summary: FeS nanoparticles are easily aggregated and oxidized in the natural environment. In this study, a novel bio-adsorbent (CFeS-WS) was synthesized by stabilizing the FeS nanoparticles with biochar from walnut shell and cellulose composites. The CFeS-WS showed good adsorption performance for U(vi) ions removal from aqueous solution.

Adsorption behavior and mechanism of U(VI) onto phytic Acid-modified Biochar/MoS2 heterojunction materials

Yanbing Sun et al.

Summary: Using low-cost, pollution-free, and efficient adsorbents to remove uranium from radioactive wastewater is important for environmental protection. In this study, bamboo powder-derived biomass charcoal (BDC) was composited with MoS2 and surface-modified with phytic acid to obtain BDC/MoS2-PO4 composite. The adsorption performance of the composite was enhanced after H-2 plasma treatment. This study provides a theoretical and experimental basis for the design and synthesis of biochar-based materials and contributes to radioactive wastewater treatment.

Efficient adsorption and reduction of Cr(VI) and U(VI) by nanoscale zero-valent iron supported on polydopamine-decorated SBA-15

Fenglei Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite material (nZVI@SBA-15-PDA/PEI) loaded with nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) was developed for the removal of Cr(VI) and U(VI). The maximum removal capacities were found to be 44.05 mg/g and 57.78 mg/g for Cr(VI) and U(VI) respectively. The elimination mechanism involved a two-step interaction process where the pollutants were first attached onto the composite materials and then reduced to U(IV) and Cr(III) by nZVI.

Efficient uranium reduction of bacterial cellulose-MoS2 heterojunction via the synergistically effect of Schottky junction and S-vacancies engineering

Tao Chen et al.

Summary: Integration of schottky junction and defect engineering on adsorbent-semiconductors offers a promising strategy for photocatalytic reduction of U(VI). The BC-MoS2-x heterojunction exhibited high removal efficiency, cycle stability, and selective U(VI) removal in the presence of competing metal cations. The use of organic matter as a hole trapping agent to enhance U(VI) removal efficiency may pave the way for the development of rationally designed heterojunction photocatalysts.
