Visible Light-Driven, Gold(I)-Catalyzed Preparation of Symmetrical(Hetero)biaryls by Homocoupling of Arylazo Sulfones

Lorenzo Di Terlizzi et al.

Summary: The synthesis of symmetrical (hetero)biaryls through arylation of sulfones using visible light irradiation and PPh3AuCl as the catalyst has been achieved. This protocol enables the efficient synthesis of a wide range of target compounds in an organic-aqueous solvent without the need for a photocatalyst.

Understanding interfacial energy structures in organic solar cells using photoelectron spectroscopy: A review

Ju Hwan Kang et al.

Summary: Organic solar cells (OSCs) are gaining attention as a promising clean energy technology due to their low cost and potential for large-scale manufacturing. However, there is still a lack of understanding regarding charge carrier transport and the impact of ionic moieties in OSCs. Interfacial engineering is an effective approach to improve the performance of organic photovoltaic devices.

On the Determination of Halogen Atom Reduction Potentials with Photoredox Catalysts

Alexander M. Deetz et al.

Summary: This study used two Ir(III) photoredox catalysts to initiate halogen atom oxidation in organic solvents, analyzing E°(X•/-) through a diffusional model with Marcus theory. The use of exact Debye expression was necessary in high-ionic-strength dichloromethane solutions to avoid serious disagreements with experimental results. The Fuoss equation was suitable for determining photocatalyst-halide association constants.

Reconciling the Driving Force and the Barrier to Charge Separation in Donor-Nonfullerene Acceptor Films

Taylor G. Allen et al.

Summary: The study found that barrierless charge separation in all-small-molecule semiconducting films only occurs when the driving force is sufficient to overcome the Coulomb potential. The discrepancy with recent literature is attributed to differences in calculating driving force, emphasizing the importance of standardizing methods in this field.
