A Review on the Design, Synthesis, and Structure-activity Relationships of Benzothiazole Derivatives against Hypoxic Tumors

Akif Hakan Kurt et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the design, synthesis, and structure-activity relationships of benzothiazole derivatives as potential anti-cancer drug candidates against hypoxic tumors such as lung, liver, pancreas, breast, and brain. Hypoxia plays a crucial role in carcinogenesis and activates various protumorigenic responses. The review is expected to be helpful for researchers in the field of drug design to develop novel benzothiazole-containing hybrids with higher efficacies against hypoxic tumors.

Evaluation of anticancer activity of ferrocene based benzothiazole and beta-ketooxothioacetal

Archana Ranjan et al.

Summary: Ferrocene-based compounds have gained importance in cancer treatment due to their lower toxicity and cost-effective synthesis. In this study, thianes containing ferrocene were synthesized and their synergistic effect with thiol was observed in suppressing tumor growth. These compounds showed significant anticancer effects by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting cell migration. The ferrocene-based compounds have the potential to serve as a platform for the development of new anticancer agents, replacing rare metal compounds.

(E)-2-(2-Oxo-4-phenylbut-3-en-1-yl)benzo[d]thiazole-3(2H)-carboxylates

Yordan Stremski et al.

Summary: A convenient one-pot approach for the synthesis of new (E)-2-(2-oxo-4-phenylbut-3-en-1-yl)benzo[d]thiazole-3(2H)-carboxylates was demonstrated, utilizing a three-component reaction of benzylideneacetone with electrophilic N-alkoxycarbonylbenzothiazolium species formed in situ. The newly synthesized compounds were fully characterized by 1D H-1, C-13- NMR, IR, and MS.

Oxidation step in the preparation of benzocamalexin: the crystallographic evidence

Yordan Stremski et al.

Summary: This study focused on the oxidation step in the preparation of benzocamalexin, and identified perchloro-1,2-phenylene dibenzoate as the product of transformation of tetrachloro1,2-benzoquinone used as the oxidant. The X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the structures of benzocamalexin and perchloro-1,2-phenylene dibenzoate. The extraction step in the final isolation of benzocamalexin was found to be crucial for the complete transformation of mono- and diacylated perchloropyrocatechol.
