E-Selective Manganese-Catalyzed Semihydrogenation of Alkynes with H2 Directly Employed or In Situ-Generated

Ronald A. Farrar-Tobar et al.

Summary: This study describes the selective semihydrogenation of alkynes using a Mn(I) alkyl catalyst, leading to good to excellent yields of E-alkenes. Mechanistic investigations reveal that the initially formed Z-isomer undergoes fast isomerization to the thermodynamically more stable E-isomer.

Enantioselective Synthesis of α-All-Carbon Quaternary Center-Containing Carbazolones via Amino-palladation/Desymmetrizing Nitrile Addition Cascade

Xu-Dong Hu et al.

Summary: This research presents an efficient enantioselective Pd(II)-catalyzed cascade reaction for the transformation of alkyne-tethered malononitriles into alpha-quaternary carbazolones with high enantioselectivities. The utility of this method is demonstrated by the synthesis of diverse heterocycles and a nitrile-containing leucomidine A analog from the obtained products.

Asymmetric, visible light-mediated radical sulfinyl-Smiles rearrangement to access all-carbon quaternary stereocentres

Cedric Hervieu et al.

Summary: This study reports an asymmetric radical sulfinyl-Smiles rearrangement method to access acyclic amides with alpha-all-carbon quaternary centers. It uses enantioenriched N-arylsulfinyl acrylamides as acceptors for a variety of radicals produced in situ under mild photoredox conditions. The resulting amides are prevalent in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and bioactive natural products, and can be further transformed into valuable chiral compounds.

Indium Catalyzed Sequential Regioselective Remote C-H Indolylation and Rearrangement Reaction of Peroxyoxindole

Moseen A. Shaikh et al.

Summary: Indium catalyzes sequential remote C-H functionalization and C3-indolylation of peroxyoxindole, leading to the synthesis of terindolinone derivatives. In contrast, FeCl3 ·6H2O facilitates oxidative cleavage of peroxyoxindole and its reaction with indole to afford biologically important trisindoline derivatives. A plausible mechanism for these reactions has been proposed with experimental evidence.

Rhodium-Catalyzed Sulfimidation Reactions: A Computational Study

Emna Azek et al.

Summary: The rhodium-catalyzed sulfimidation reaction involves key intermediates of rhodium nitrene and rhodium nitrenoid species, with DMAP and bis-(DMAP)CH2Cl2 additives playing crucial roles in stabilizing these intermediates. The addition of different ligands can diverge the reaction mechanism, as demonstrated by experimental and theoretical studies, showing that the involvement of DMAP ligand is essential for the stabilization of intermediates.

Iron-catalyzed oxidative bis-arylation of indolin-2-ones for direct construction of quaternary carbons

Ke-Xin Wu et al.

Summary: This paper describes a method for directly constructing all-carbon quaternary centers from secondary C(sp(3))-H substrates through a dehydrogenative cross-coupling reaction, using FeCl2 center dot 4H(2)O as the catalyst and air as the terminal oxidant. This method provides 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles bearing all-carbon quaternary centers with excellent chemoselectivities under mild, ligand-free and base-free conditions.
