Silver-catalyzed cyclopropanation of alkenes with alkynyl N-nosylhydrazones leading to alkynyl cyclopropanes

Yongquan Ning et al.

Summary: A novel method for the stereoselective synthesis of alkynyl cyclopropanes, by the silver-catalyzed alkynylcyclopropanation of alkenes using alkynyl N-nosylhydrazones as alkynyl carbene precursors, is reported. This method provides a straightforward and powerful approach for preparing various alkynyl cyclopropanes in high yield with excellent stereoselectivities. In addition, the practicality of this method was demonstrated by gram-scale synthesis and late-stage modification of bioactive molecules.

Metalloradical Activation of In Situ-Generated α-Alkynyldiazomethanes for Asymmetric Radical Cyclopropanation of Alkenes

Jing Ke et al.

Summary: In this study, it was discovered that alpha-alkynyldiazomethanes generated in situ from the corresponding sulfonyl hydrazones in the presence of a base can be used as effective metalloradicophiles in Co(II)-based metalloradical catalysis for asymmetric cyclopropanation reactions. By using a specific chiral ligand, the Co(II)-based metalloradical system can activate different alpha-alkynyldiazomethanes at room temperature, resulting in highly asymmetric cyclopropanation of a wide range of alkenes with high yields and enantioselectivity. Computational and experimental studies provided evidence for the stepwise radical mechanism involved in the Co(II)-catalyzed olefin cyclopropanation reaction, which is associated with a unique alpha-metalloradical intermediate. The resulting enantioenriched alkynyl cyclopropanes can serve as valuable chiral building blocks for stereoselective organic synthesis.

Ag-Catalyzed Insertion of Alkynyl Carbenes into C-C Bonds of β-Ketocarbonyls: A Formal C(sp2) Insertion

Yongquan Ning et al.

Summary: In this study, we reported a silver-catalyzed reaction that enables the insertion of alkynyl carbenes into beta-ketocarbonyls, providing trisubstituted allenyl ketones. This reaction represents the first example of alkynyl carbene insertion into C-C sigma bonds, resulting in products with an sp(2) carbon center. The obtained products serve as useful substrates for further transformations.

Rh(II)-Catalyzed Alkynylcyclopropanation of Alkenes by Decarbenation of Alkynylcycloheptatrienes

Mauro Mato et al.

Summary: A new two-step methodology has been developed for the synthesis of alkynylcyclopropanes, which avoids the usual problems associated with these substrates under metal catalysis. This approach allows for rapid access to a diverse library of alkynylcyclopropanes, including versatile intermediates that previously required lengthier synthetic approaches. Through experiments and DFT calculations, the complete mechanistic picture for the divergent reactivity of alkynylcycloheptatrienes under metal catalysis has been unveiled, explaining the unique selectivity displayed by rhodium(II) complexes.
