Impact of photobiomodulation in a patient-derived xenograft model of oral squamous cell carcinoma

Felipe Martins Silveira et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) in an oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patient-derived xenograft (OSCC-PDX) model. The results showed that PBMT did not affect tumor behavior. This is an important clinical outcome for assessing the safety of PBMT in cancer patients.

Long non-coding RNA BANCR promotes proliferation and migration in oral squamous cell carcinoma via MAPK signaling pathway

Chun Yao et al.

Summary: The overexpression of BANCR in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is associated with increased cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, while its downregulation inhibits these processes. BANCR may play a crucial role in OSCC tumorigenesis and could serve as a potential therapeutic target and prognostic factor for OSCC patients.

Rab family of small GTPases: an updated view on their regulation and functions

Yuta Homma et al.

Summary: The Rab family of small GTPases plays a crucial role in regulating intracellular membrane trafficking by cycling between active and inactive states, controlled by GEFs and GAPs. Identification of new GEFs, GAPs, effectors, and post-translational modifications of Rabs have expanded our understanding of their functions beyond simple effector recruitment. Advances in CRISPR/Cas technology have accelerated knockout analyses, revealing previously unknown physiological roles of many Rabs.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Long Non-Coding RNA (lncRNA) in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Biological Function and Clinical Application

Jianfei Tang et al.

Summary: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a highly lethal malignancy worldwide, with long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) playing crucial regulatory roles in OSCC by influencing tumor initiation and progression. This review discusses the functions, molecular mechanisms, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment of lncRNAs in OSCC, highlighting their potential as diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic targets. Furthermore, it explores lncRNA-targeted therapeutic techniques such as CRISPR-Cas9 and immune checkpoint therapies to target lncRNAs and the PD-1/PD-L1 axis, presenting future perspectives in OSCC therapy that require further research for clinical applications.
