Effect of thermomechanical treatment and tempering temperature on microstructure and tensile properties of India specific re duce d activation ferritic martensitic steel

P. Anil Kumar et al.

Summary: In this study, India specific reduced activation ferritic martensitic (INRAFM) steel was subjected to thermomechanical treatment (TMT) to improve its microstructural characteristics, hardness, and tensile properties at elevated temperatures. The results showed that tempering at 1033 K in TMT1 condition significantly enhanced the hardness, tensile strength, and ductility of the steel due to microstructural refinement. However, tempering at 1063 K in TMT2 condition diminished the beneficial effects of TMT due to the coarsening of precipitates and the annihilation of dislocation structure. The TMT processed INRAFM steel shows great potential for nuclear fusion reactor applications.

Advanced heat-resistant martensitic steels: Long-term creep deformation and fracture mechanisms

A. Fedoseeva et al.

Summary: The creep behavior of 9% Cr martensitic steels with different W, N, and B contents was studied at 650 degrees C. The results showed a breakdown in creep strength and a change in apparent stress exponent at applied stresses ranging from 140 to 120 MPa. The threshold stresses, estimated by extrapolation, decreased at the transition from high stress to low stress regions. The sources of these threshold stresses were believed to be dislocations, carbides, and phase particles.

Radiation-induced amorphization of M23C6 in F82H steel: An atomic-scale observation

Sho Kano et al.

Summary: The study aims to clarify the instability behavior of M23C6 under irradiation, specifically the occurrence of radiation-induced amorphization. It was found that an amorphous-rim phase and inner crystalline core of M23C6 were observed in the irradiated F82H specimen, but not in the model alloy. The chemical disordering of W in M23C6 was shifted to other sites upon irradiation, with a mitigated extent at the amorphous-crystal interface region.

Creep properties, microstructural evolution, and fracture mechanism of an Al added high Cr ODS steel during creep deformation at 600 °C

Jian Ren et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the creep properties, microstructural evolution, and fracture mechanism of 16Cr-3Al ODS steel under different uniaxial tensile stresses at 600 degrees C. The relationship between the minimum creep rate and mean creep rate was linear, with a determined threshold stress. The evolution of the Cr-rich phase played a significant role in the fracture mechanism of 16Cr-3Al ODS steel after creep deformation.

Effect of microstructure heterogeneity on the mechanical properties of friction stir welded reduced activation ferritic/martensitic steel

Shengli Li et al.

Summary: The study indicates that the peak temperature and effective strain rate during the friction stir welding process influence the variation of prior austenite grain size, packet size, and block width in different subzones. The distribution of microhardness is directly correlated to the geometrically necessary dislocation density observed in the different zones.

On the improvement of tensile properties of thermo-mechanically treated India specific reduced activation ferritic-martensitic steel

P. Anil Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructure and properties of India specific reduced activation ferritic martensitic (INRAFM) steel after thermo-mechanical treatment and tempering. The results show that thermo-mechanical treatment increases the dislocation density by three-fold, but tempering decreases the dislocation density. The hardness and tensile properties of the steel are significantly improved after thermo-mechanical treatment and tempering.

Stabilities of the precipitates in CLAM steel during 30,0 0 0 h thermal aging

Sheng Yin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the evolutions of the Laves phase, the M23C6 phase, and the MX phase in CLAM steel during thermal aging. The results showed that the Laves phase exhibited the worst stability and highest coarsening rate among the three phases. The particle size relationship of the Laves phase with time was different from that of the other two phases. The study also observed two nucleation modes and an enwrapping growth mechanism of the Laves phase.

Summary: The microstructural evolution and its effect on the strength of G115 steel after creep were investigated. A new nucleation mechanism of Laves phase adjacent to Cu-rich phase was found, and it was discovered that Laves phase and Cu-rich phase play a vital role in the strength of G115 steel during creep.

Developing of containing Ta, Zr reduced activation ferritic/martensitic (RAFM) steel with excellent creep property

Chunliang Mao et al.

Summary: By adding trace amounts of Ta and Zr elements, the creep properties of reduced activation ferritic/martensitic (RAFM) steels at elevated temperatures can be improved. This is attributed to the refinement of carbide particles and the increase in MX particle quantity, resulting in enhanced strength and reduced creep rate.

Ambient, elevated temperature tensile properties and origin of strengthening in friction stir welded 6 mm thick reduced activation ferritic-martensitic steel plates in as-welded and post-weld normalised conditions

Johny Varghese et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructure and mechanical properties of Indian RAFM steel during friction stir welding. The results show that the welding process leads to changes in microstructure and mechanical properties, which can be restored through post weld normalising and tempering treatment. The tensile behavior of the material is influenced by different strengthening mechanisms and the angle of grain boundaries in the stir zone.

Hot-deformation induced static recrystallization and nano-MX precipitation in a low activation martensitic steel

J. H. Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that decreasing compression temperature leads to a decrease in static recrystallization degree, as well as a reduction in the sizes of grains, subgrains and MX carbides in low activation martensitic steel. This also results in an increase in hardness, mainly due to the decrease in temperature and the increase in nano precipitation content.
