Evolution of bubble in tungsten irradiated by deuterium of low energy and high flux by molecular dynamics simulations

Yuan Xiang et al.

Summary: Using molecular dynamics simulations, this study investigates the evolution of deuterium bubbles in tungsten, including the formation, growth, and burst. The effects of flux, temperature, and incident energy of deuterium on the evolution and position of the bubbles are discussed. It is found that the evolution of bubbles is more difficult on surfaces with higher crystal face density.

Crystallographic orientation dependent of blisters formation on tungsten surface exposed to helium ions

Mingxu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the mechanism of crystallographic orientation dependent on helium-induced blister formation in plasma-facing tungsten. It was found that the crystallographic orientation of the underlying grain controls the behavior of blister formation, with different grains developing different morphologies after helium implantation. Based on molecular dynamics simulation, it was observed that blisters on grains with orientation near a specific direction grow quickly and exfoliate firstly, leading to severe blistering. Higher fluence is expected to introduce more severe blisters on grains near that specific direction.

Predictive Atomistic Model for Hydrogen Adsorption on Metal Surfaces: Comparison with Low-Energy Ion Beam Analysis on Tungsten

Zachary A. Piazza et al.

Summary: The study presents an analytical thermodynamic model to determine the surface coverage of an adsorbate on a surface in contact with a gas phase, based on temperature, pressure, and chemical potential of the gas. The model, built upon density functional theory data, accurately predicts the hydrogen coverage on tungsten surfaces and shows good agreement with experimental measurements. The model has the potential for accurate predictions of hydrogen coverage on tungsten under different pressure and temperature conditions.

Modelling tritium adsorption and desorption from tungsten dust particles with a surface kinetic model

E. A. Hodille et al.

Summary: A kinetic surface model is presented to explain the loading and desorption kinetics of tritium retained in micrometre-sized tungsten dust particles. The model successfully describes experimental results by modeling only tritium adsorbed on the surface of tungsten dust particles. Using the model, possible scenarios to remove tritium from tungsten surfaces have been explored, suggesting that it can be possible to remove all tritium trapped on the surfaces even at room temperature.
