Closed-loop enhancement and neural decoding of cognitive control in humans

Ishita Basu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that closed-loop electrical stimulation of the internal capsule can enhance cognitive control in participants with epilepsy. Decoding of task performance from electrode activity was also achieved. These findings have the potential to improve cognitive deficits in individuals with severe mental disorders.

Direct Discriminative Decoder Models for Analysis of High-Dimensional Dynamical Neural Data

Mohammad R. Rezaei et al.

Summary: With the development of neural recording technology, research in integrative neuroscience relies on scalable and computationally tractable data analysis methods. Latent process models have shown promise in estimating cognitive processes, but scaling them to high-dimensional neural recordings remains challenging. In this paper, a novel direct discriminative decoder (DDD) model is introduced, which can estimate cognitive process dynamics without requiring precise receptive field models of individual neurons or brain nodes.

Differentiation of speech-induced artifacts from physiological high gamma activity in intracranial recordings

Alan Bush et al.

Summary: Researchers describe the presence of speech-induced artifacts in local-field potential (LFP) recordings obtained during deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. The existence of these artifacts can affect the validity and reproducibility of speech-related intracranial recordings.

Fronto-subthalamic phase synchronization and cross-frequency coupling during conflict processing

Ke Zeng et al.

Summary: Research on the neural substrate for fronto-subthalamic communication during conflict processing has indicated that coordination and information transfer between brain structures are achieved through mechanisms such as theta phase synchronization and theta-gamma phase-amplitude coupling.

Modeling behaviorally relevant neural dynamics enabled by preferential subspace identification

Omid G. Sani et al.

Summary: The PSID algorithm is developed to model neural activity while dissociating and prioritizing its behaviorally relevant dynamics. Through simulation, it was found that behaviorally relevant dynamics are lower-dimensional than previously expected, and can be more accurately learned using PSID.
