A self-assembled 2D nanosheet II-type heterojunction photocatalyst for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Yongchao Gong et al.

Summary: A novel 2D/2D heterojunction nanocomposite catalyst, with strong interaction between flake-like SrCO3 and SrTiO3 nanosheet, was synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. The photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of 10SCO-STO-Pt was significantly improved by 12.9 times compared to pure STO-Pt, reaching 2.83 mmol h(-1)g(-1). Moreover, the apparent quantum efficiency of 10SCO-STO-Pt composite with 10 wt.% SCO loading reached 16.9% under 313 nm light. The introduction of SCO formed a II-type heterojunction with STO, promoting photogenerated electron transfer and reducing carrier recombination, thus enhancing the charge separation efficiency and photocatalytic activity of STO.

Facile synthesis of large-scale TiO2 nanorod arrays decorated with Ag nanoparticles as sensitive 3D SERS substrates

Xudong Cheng et al.

Summary: A facile and green synthesis strategy was used to prepare a uniform three-dimensional (3D) nanostructure as surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors by decorating Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) on TiO2 nanorod arrays. The AgNPs were distributed uniformly on the surface of TiO2 nanorods, as confirmed by XPS, SEM, and TEM analyses. The 3D hybrid substrate exhibited sensitive SERS signals and excellent spatial uniformity. The results also demonstrated the promising potential of the two-step synthesis strategy for preparing 3D hybrid nanostructure substrates for SERS.

Life cycle assessment of end-of-life engineered wood

Shahjadi Hisan Farjana et al.

Summary: This paper aims to identify sustainable circular economy pathways for waste MDF and particleboard management through life cycle assessment, comparing landfill, recycling, and energy recovery scenarios. The results show that material recovery is preferred over energy recovery in most impact categories, except for climate change and fossil fuel depletion. The management of waste engineered woods has less impact than the production process, and energy recovery has the greatest toxicity impacts.
