Benchmarking TD-DFT and Wave Function Methods for Oscillator Strengths and Excited-State Dipole Moments

Rudraditya Sarkar et al.

Summary: This study compares the performances of various wave function methods and time-dependent density-functional theory under different conditions, highlighting the significant impact of gauge choice on oscillator strengths for ADC(2) and CC2. Moreover, it suggests that the accuracy and consistency obtained with the second-order wave function approaches ADC(2) and CC2 do not clearly outperform those of TD-DFT.

Robust and Efficient Implicit Solvation Model for Fast Semiempirical Methods

Sebastian Ehlert et al.

Summary: A robust and efficient method is proposed to implicitly account for solvation effects in modern semiempirical quantum mechanics and force fields. The method based on the analytical linearized Poisson-Boltzmann (ALPB) model shows good performance over a broad range of systems and applications, with high accuracy in hydration free energy calculation.

An excited state coupled-cluster study on indigo dyes

Marvin H. Lechner et al.

Summary: In this study, a domain-based pair natural orbital approach was used to reproduce the vibrational absorption spectra of indigo dyes. The calculated transition energies showed excellent agreement with experimental results, with a deviation below the desired threshold, and the method was able to accurately predict the shift in excitation energies upon chemical substitution. Furthermore, the computed spectra of Tyrian purple dye components matched experimental results without the need for an empirical shift.

Summary: The study proposes a fully automated composite scheme for accurate calculation of molecular entropies, utilizing a combination of density-functional theory, semi-empirical methods, and force-field approximations. Extensive testing reveals unprecedented accuracy and reliability of the scheme, with potential applications in calculating free energy differences in chemical reactions.
