Beta2-microglobulin(B2M) in cancer immunotherapies: Biological function, resistance and remedy

Hanbing Wang et al.

Summary: Cancer immunotherapies have made significant progress in recent decades, with techniques such as immune checkpoint inhibition and adoptive cell therapy showing impressive efficacy. However, resistance to these therapies still persists in some patients due to inadequate immune system priming. B2M, an important subunit of MHC class I, plays a critical role in tumorigenesis and immune control, and alterations in B2M gene and proteins have been linked to poor response to cancer immunotherapies. Promising therapeutic strategies are being developed to overcome these B2M-related limitations and enhance treatment efficacy.

Rab6A as a Pan-Astrocytic Marker in Mouse and Human Brain, and Comparison with Other Glial Markers (GFAP, GS, Aldh1L1, SOX9)

Linda Melzer et al.

Summary: Astrocytes play a significant role in higher brain functions, and their TGN (trans-Golgi network) contains a substantial amount of Rab6A immunostaining, suggesting it as a global descriptor of astrocyte identity. Rab6A is associated with GFAP(+) astrocytes in both mouse and human brains, exhibiting clear cell type-specificity.

Role of Polymeric Immunoglobulin Receptor in IgA and IgM Transcytosis

Hao Wei et al.

Summary: Transcytosis of polymeric IgA and IgM mediated by pIgR is essential for mucosal immunity. The J chain plays a crucial role in the formation and recognition of polymeric IgA and IgM by pIgR, while MZB1 may act as a regulator to facilitate IgA and IgM transcytosis.

Adipokines, Myokines, and Hepatokines: Crosstalk and Metabolic Repercussions

Ana Rita de Oliveira dos Santos et al.

Summary: Adipokines, myokines, and hepatokines are endocrine markers produced by adipose, skeletal, and hepatic muscle tissues, respectively, which can have harmful or beneficial effects on an organism. The interactions between these markers in the body can contribute to the development of various physiological disorders, such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases. The understanding of these interactions may provide insights into potential therapeutic targets for diagnosing and treating metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases.

Association of Hepatic Steatosis Index with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Diagnosed by Non-Enhanced CT in a Screening Population

Jieun Chung et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association of hepatic steatosis determined by non-enhanced CT criteria with clinical parameters in a screening population. The presence of hepatic steatosis was significantly associated with levels of serum fasting glucose and triglycerides, the ALT/AST ratio, BMI, and HSI values. Logistic regression analysis revealed significant associations between serum fasting glucose level and HSI with hepatic steatosis using criterion (a), and between ALT/AST ratio and HSI with hepatic steatosis using criteria (b) and (c). Hepatic steatosis on non-enhanced CT should be considered to indicate possible clinical profile abnormalities regarding metabolic syndrome.

α1-Antitrypsin A treatment attenuates neutrophil elastase accumulation and enhances insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue of mice fed a high-fat diet

Randall F. D'Souza et al.

Summary: Inhibition of the primary neutrophil protease, neutrophil elastase, with A1AT can improve insulin sensitivity and glucose homeostasis in mice fed a high-fat diet. This improvement is associated with enhanced insulin-induced IRS-1 phosphorylation and reduced inflammation markers in white adipose tissue, highlighting the role of neutrophils in mediating diet-induced peripheral tissue insulin resistance.
