The Influence of Physio-Chemical Parameters of Castor oil (Biodiesel) as an Additive in Diesel-Ethanol (Diesohol) Blends at 303 K

P. Sasikumar

Summary: This research investigates the intermolecular interactions of castor oil (biodiesel) as additives to diesel-ethanol fuel blends. Acoustical parameters including acoustic velocity, density, viscosity, and surface tension were studied. Parameters were calculated through adiabatic compressibility, intermolecular free length, and acoustical impedance. It was found that biodiesel improves the fuel blend, particularly in terms of immiscibility trend.

Impact of Physio-Chemical Properties of Ketones With 2-Methoxyethanol and 2-Butoxyethanol at 303 K

P. Periyasamy et al.

Summary: The densities, viscosities, and refractive indices of binary blends of ketones with 2-butoxyethanol and 2-methoxyethanol were measured at 303 K. Based on these measurements, molar refraction, polarizability, and refractive index values were determined. Excess properties such as molar volume, molar refraction, viscosities, deviations of refractive indices, and Gibbs free energy were determined using the experimental values. The interactions between unlike molecules were found to be specific forms of dipole-induced dipole forces, possibly due to hydrogen bonding between different molecules (C=O...H-O).

Effect of pH and cosolvent sucralose on the solvation profile of ovalbumin: Ultrasonic and molecular simulation studies

P. Agalya et al.

Summary: This article studies the effect of sucralose as an additive combined with pH variation on the solvation profile of Ovalbumin. Experimental and computational studies confirm the existence of non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions, which lead to OVA denaturation in both acidic and alkaline regions to a different extent. The simulation results suggest that the solvent/cosolvent accumulation on the OVA surface is pH-dependent.

The experimental study on the performance, combustion and emission characteristics of a diesel engine using diesel - biodiesel - diethyl ether blends

Krishnamani Selvaraj et al.

Summary: Experimental analysis was conducted to study the influence of diethyl ether as an oxygenated additive in diesel-biodiesel blends on the performance and emissions of a diesel engine. Results showed that diethyl ether improved engine efficiency and reduced CO and HC emissions, but had little impact on NOX emissions.

Quantification of water in bioethanol using rhodamine B as an efficient molecular optical probe

Wilson E. Passos et al.

Summary: The study utilized Rhodamine B as an optical probe and employed UV-visible absorption, steady-state fluorescence, and time-resolved fluorescence techniques to linearly determine water content in ethanol, with a limit of detection of <= 1.4% (w/w). Molecular dynamics simulations showed the interactions between water and ethanol molecules with RhB, affecting its absorption and emission characteristics. Common optical techniques can provide a simple, rapid, portable, and precise method to monitor water in ethanol using RhB as a probe.

Impact of physio-thermo properties on the azeotrope formation in benzene-1-alkanol blends

P. Sasikumar et al.

Summary: This report discusses the potential of azeotrope development in blends of 1-alkanols with benzene, analyzing intermolecular interactions and using experimental measurements to predict azeotrope formation. The study also examines the impact of thermodynamic variables on azeotrope formation and confirms the validity of the proposed models through fitting of excess parameters.

Insights on biodiesel blends with alkanol solvents

H. Ghazipour et al.

Summary: The study measured the thermophysical properties of mixtures of fatty acid esters with alkanols and analyzed the intermolecular forces in these systems through experimental measurements and molecular modeling. The non-ideality behavior of the studied systems showed significant changes in hydrogen bonding structuring upon mixing, highlighting the importance of the amount of alkanols in tuning and controlling the macroscopic properties of biodiesel blends.
