Efficient single benzene AIE system: Optical waveguide and invisible ink

Xiunan Zhang et al.

Summary: A symmetrical AIE single-benzene derivative MeDHQB with two aliphatic rings was designed, and two crystal forms were discovered by controlling crystallization conditions. The presence of aliphatic rings weakened the structural rigidity and promoted molecular vibration, increasing nonradiative transition in solution but inhibiting it in aggregate states. The different polymorphic physicochemical properties of MeDHQB-I and MeDHQB-II were investigated, along with the thermal transformation and potential applications of optical waveguide and invisible ink. This work provides an efficient strategy for constructing multifunctional AIE fluorophores based on a compact single-benzene system.

Chameleon Behavior of a New Salt of 3-(Aminocarbonyl) Pyridinium Malonate and Implications for Polymorphism on the Salt/Cocrystal Continuum

Paul Stainton et al.

Summary: This contribution presents a previously unreported binary crystalline adduct which forms a salt in a 1:1 stoichiometry and conducts a comparative study with known polymorphic forms. Computational mapping and periodic DFT-D calculations reveal the stability order of different crystalline forms and propose potentially more stable salt forms. This study demonstrates the importance of computational studies in exploring solid forms and their impact on physiochemical properties and morphology.

Cocrystallization of urea and succinic acid in Nano-Crystallizer

Qiushuo Yu et al.

Summary: By applying cooling crystallization and evaporation crystallization in nano-crystallizers, it was shown for the first time that metastable cocrystals can be produced and maintained during the slow crystallization process under confined conditions. The study revealed the strong influences of confinement on the phase diagram and thermodynamic properties of nano-scale cocrystals, which may contribute to the discovery of new forms of pharmaceutical compounds and materials.

Synthetic Approaches to Halogen Bonded Ternary Cocrystals

Harsh Jain et al.

Summary: Higher cocrystal synthesis relies heavily on understanding supramolecular synthons, taking into account the electrophilicity/nucleophilicity differences between alternative sites of halogen bond formation, and ensuring that the two halogen bonds in a ternary halogen bonded cocrystal have different strengths. Mimicking hydrogen bond interactions with halogen bonds is a feasible approach for ternary structures, as shown with the pyrene example. Crystal engineers should be able to predict halogen bonds that are stronger than hydrogen bonds.

Toward Understanding the Growth of Cefradine in Aqueous Solution

Xiaowei Cheng et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated crystal growth of cefradine in aqueous solution through experimental methods and molecular dynamics simulations. The results showed that water molecules preferred to be adsorbed onto the (1 0 1) crystal face due to favored hydrophilicity and solvent adsorption sites, and the stronger interaction between water molecules and the (1 0 1) crystal face hindered crystal growth along the radial direction.
