Magnetic Silica-Coated Picolylamine Copper Complex [Fe3O4@SiO2@GP/Picolylamine-Cu(II)]-Catalyzed Biginelli Annulation Reaction

Sobhan Rezayati et al.

Summary: An efficient and heterogeneous magnetic nanocatalyst Fe3O4@SiO2@GP/Picolylamine-Cu(II) was synthesized and successfully applied in Biginelli condensation for the preparation of biologically active compounds with high conversions and reusability. The catalyst system exhibited several significant advantages, including convenient and clean reaction conditions, gram-scale synthesis, usage of nontoxic solvent, improved yield, short reaction times, and high durability. Additionally, the nanocatalyst could be recycled by an external magnet for multiple runs with only a slight decrease in product yields.

A new class of half-sandwich ruthenium complexes containing Biginelli hybrids: anticancer and anti-SARS-CoV-2 activities

Nenad Jankovic et al.

Summary: The novel Biginelli hybrids and their ruthenium(II) complexes were synthesized and evaluated for their cytotoxic effects on cancer cells and virus. Two compounds were found to induce apoptosis in cancer cells, while showing significant inhibition against SARS-CoV-2 M-pro. This opens up a new avenue for the design of dual-active drugs with anticancer and antiviral properties.

Synthesis and Antifungal Activity of Pyrimidine Derivatives Containing an Amide Moiety

Wenneng Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, 17 novel pyrimidine derivatives containing an amide moiety were synthesized and tested for their in vitro antifungal activities. The results showed that two compounds exhibited higher antifungal activity against Phomopsis sp., with one compound, 5o, showing excellent activity. This is the first report on the antifungal activities of this series of pyrimidine derivatives against B. dothidea, Phomopsis sp., and B. cinereal.

Selective N-Alkylation of Amines with DMC over Biogenic Cu-Zr Bimetallic Nanoparticles

Ashutosh Sharma et al.

Summary: This study reported the green synthesis of copper-zirconium bimetallic nanoparticles using Azadirachta indica leaf extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent, which showed efficient catalytic activity for selective N-methylation reactions. Optimization of process conditions allowed the catalyst system to efficiently convert amines into N-methylated amines at high temperatures with high selectivity, and the analysis confirmed the catalyst's reusability for multiple cycles.

Green synthesis, structural analysis and anticancer activity of dihydropyrimidinone derivatives

Jayanta Dowarah et al.

Summary: For the first time, Citrus macroptera juice was utilized to synthesize dihydropyrimidine (DHPM) derivatives via the Biginelli reaction, showing potential anticancer activity, especially against lung adenocarcinoma, in both in vitro and in vivo studies. The compounds with a chloro-group at the 3- or 4-position in the substituted ring of DHPM exhibited higher binding affinity for the human kinesin Eg5 enzyme and induced significant cell death in human A549 lung adenocarcinoma cells. This suggests that a deactivating group (chlorine) at the 3- or 4-position in the substituted ring of DHPM may be a promising anticancer drug candidate for treating various types of cancers, particularly lung cancer.

Visible-light-mediated multicomponent reaction for secondary amine synthesis

Xiaochen Wang et al.

Summary: The study presents a simplified method for the synthesis of secondary amines through three-component alkylation reactions of imines generated by condensation of benzaldehydes and anilines with unactivated alkyl iodides. This method is operationally simple, mild, compatible with various sensitive functional groups, and does not require a large excess of the alkylating reagent.
