Machine learning for the yield prediction of CO2 cyclization reaction catalyzed by the ionic liquids

Jinya Li et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids are effective catalysts for CO2 cycloaddition reactions, but their design lacks guidance due to the diversity of their structures. In this study, we collected a database of 866 samples and established a yield prediction model using machine learning regression algorithms. The random forest model showed better prediction accuracy compared to support vector regression and multilayer perceptron models, especially when the dataset was subdivided into subsets based on substrates and ionic liquids. Our work also provided guidance for establishing reliable machine learning models in chemistry reactions.

CO2 pyrolysis kinetics and characteristics of lignin-rich hydrolysis residue produced from a tandem process of steam-stripping and acid hydrolysis

Youwang Huang et al.

Summary: This study proposes the high-value utilization of lignin-rich hydrolysis residue (LIHS) through pyrolysis under CO2 atmosphere in order to improve the techno-economic level and reduce carbon dioxide emission. The thermal decomposition characteristics and kinetics of LIHS under CO2 atmosphere were investigated using distributed activation energy models. The results obtained the values of activation energy and pre-exponential factor, and identified a kinetic compensation effect between them. The developed distributed activation energy model with distributed-fitting method shows good ability in predicting the reaction process.

Dual-ionic imidazolium salts to promote synthesis of cyclic carbonates at atmospheric pressure

Tengfei Wang et al.

Summary: We report a novel dual-ionic imidazolium salt catalyst that exhibits efficient catalytic activity for the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide and epoxides under environmentally friendly conditions, without the need for solvent and co-catalyst, with a yield as high as 96.1%. The catalyst can be reused multiple times with a yield maintained above 90%. Theoretical calculations and experimental measurements support a new reaction mechanism involving a CO2-philic group and an electrophilic hydrogen atom in the catalyst. Our findings suggest that incorporating CO2-philic groups is a feasible approach to develop new efficient ionic liquids.

High-efficient esterification of rosin and glycerol catalyzed by novel rare earth Lewis acidic ionic liquid: Reaction development and mechanistic study

Shiqin Sun et al.

Summary: A novel Lewis acidic ionic liquid [BuMeim][Sc2Cl7] was used as a catalyst for the synthesis of low acid value rosin glyceride in vacuum conditions. The DFT study confirmed the excellent coordination between anions and cations in [BuMeim][Sc2Cl7], which significantly reduces the reaction energy barrier. This makes [BuMeim][Sc2Cl7] a good catalyst for the esterification of rosin and glycerol, and potentially other esterification reactions.
