Theoretical study of [36]adamanzane (36Adz) based alkalides with remarkable non-linear optical properties

Alvina Rasool et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of alkalides based on stable C-N bond and complexed with alkaline Earth metal cations by the 3(6) Adz cage were designed and investigated using theoretical tools. The suggested complexes showed promising nonlinear optical properties, including red-shifted lambda(max), narrowed E-g, lowered E-opt, enhanced delta mu, ameliorated a(O), and beta(0) compared to pure 3(6) Adz. NBO charges investigations revealed the migration of an s-electron from the inner metal atom to the outer one, resulting in both alkalide characteristics and significant NLO responses. This research is significant for the development of new excess electron compounds and has implications for future research on high-performance NLO materials and various alkalides.

Summary: This study focuses on the creation of 5 small donor molecules (A102W1-A102W5) by substituting the one-sided methoxy group of model (A102R) with different thiophene bridged acceptor moieties. Computational analysis using the B3LYP/6-31**G (d,p) model showed that A102W3 had the best miscibility in dichloromethane (DCM) solvent, with a lambda max at 753 nm, Eg of 1.55 eV, and dipole moment of 21.47 D in DCM. A102W2 had the highest PCE among all variants (25.31%). A102W4 showed an electron reorganization energy of 0.00470 eV, while A102W2 had a hole reorganization energy of 0.00586 eV, representing their maximum electron and hole mobility, respectively. The results validate the value of these techniques and open new opportunities for the development of efficient small donors for OSCs and HTMs for PSCs.
