Competitive formation of molecular inclusion complexes of chlordecone and β-hexachlorocyclohexane with natural cyclodextrins: DFT and molecular dynamics study

Anthuan Ferino-Perez et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the competitive formation of host-guest complexes between chlordecone (CLD) and beta-hexachlorocyclohexane (beta-HCH) with cyclodextrins (CDs) as an alternative for water purification and selective separation of pesticides. The results suggest that alpha-CD can be used for selective separation of beta-HCH from CLD, while gamma-CD can be used to remove both pesticides at the same time.

?-Cyclodextrin functionalized adsorbents for removal of organic micropollutants from water

Ezgi Demircan Ozelcaglayan et al.

Summary: This literature review discusses the application of B-Cyclodextrin-based adsorbents for removing organic micropollutants from water. The shape and size of the pollutants affect their adsorption behavior, and the surface charge of the adsorbents plays a role in adsorption under repulsive forces. Common competitors such as natural organic matter and inorganic ions have minimal impact, but small fulvic acids may compete for the B-Cyclodextrin cavity. Desorption of pollutants has been achieved with alcohols and most adsorbents can be reused. The need for enhanced recovery processes and the use of computational tools for future environmental applications are identified.

A novel self-floating cyclodextrin-modified polymer for cationic dye removal: Preparation, adsorption behavior and mechanism

Zijie Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel composite based on CD was fabricated and successfully applied to treat cationic dye pollutants. The characterized composite showed high porosity, good thermal stability, stable crystal structure, and abundant functional groups, leading to excellent adsorption capacity. The removal efficiency of the composite for malachite green remained above 95% at pH 1 ~ 10. The composite reached equilibrium rapidly and exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 1390.263 mg/g. Electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonding were responsible for the binding between the composite and the cationic dye. Moreover, the composite showed good regeneration capability, with a removal efficiency still above 80% after five successive cycles. Therefore, the composite has great potential as an alternative adsorbent for cationic dye removal.
