Patient Engagement with Online Portals and Online Radiology Results

Summary: The study aimed to investigate patient portal enrollment and usage, focusing on the usage of online radiology reports by patients. Portal enrollment data was extracted using Oracle SQL queries from March 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018. The analysis revealed that 32.7% of the 424,422 patients were enrolled in the portal. Interestingly, the proportion of patients interacting with laboratory reports was significantly higher (47.2%) compared to those interacting with radiology reports (27.1%), and this difference was not influenced by demographic factors. Further research is needed to understand the reasons for these usage trends.

The findings indicate that patients tend to use their PEHR passively rather than actively and refrain from generating and managing data due to concerns about data validity, applicability, and confidentiality. Patient-generated and-managed health data ensures the completeness and up-to-dateness of medical records, and is positively associated with patient engagement and satisfaction.

Patients' Experiences of Web-Based Access to Electronic Health Records in Finland: Cross-sectional Survey

Summary: This study investigated patients' experiences using a Finnish patient portal to access their electronic health records. The results showed that patients had a positive overall evaluation of the portal and rated its usability as good. They found the portal most useful for managing prescriptions and viewing examination results and medical notes. The benefits of reading the notes included remembering and understanding healthcare professionals' instructions and conveniently receiving information about health and care. However, there were challenges related to understanding medical terminology, incorrect or inadequate notes, missing notes, and usability.
