Nb2O5-TeO2 and Nb2O5-Li2O-TeO2 glasses: Evaluation of elastic properties

Amin Abd El-Moneim et al.

Summary: The elastic properties of xNb(2)O(5)-(1-x)TeO2 and 0.5xNb(2)O(5)-0.5xLi(2)O-(1-x)TeO2 glass systems were evaluated to understand the structural role of Nb2O5 and Li2O in the tellurite network. When Nb2O5 is added, NbO6 structural units and strong Te-O-Nb linkages are formed, leading to an increase in elastic moduli of the glass system. The discrepancy between experimental and theoretical results was attributed to the structural units formed in the tellurite network when TeO2 is substituted by Nb2O5 and Li2O.

Structural and optical properties of BaTiO3 modified cadmium alkali borate glasses

K. Chandra Sekhar et al.

Summary: Borate glasses Na2B4O7-CdO-CuO-BaTiO3 have been synthesized using the traditional melt quenching method. The addition of BaTiO3 significantly affects the density and molar volume of the glass samples. Spectroscopic investigations reveal that the glass network consists of different structural units, including [BO3], [BO4], and [TiO4]. TiO2 plays a role in glass formation. The composition dependence of BaTiO3 influences the disorder of the glass structure and the optical band gap. EPR spectra indicate that Cu2+ ions occupy elongated octahedral positions with tetragonal distortions.

Investigations of mechanical and radiation shielding properties of BaTiO3-modified cadmium alkali borate glass

Yasser B. Saddeek et al.

Summary: Glass samples doped with different concentrations of BaTiO3 were prepared using the traditional melt quenching method. The structural and performance properties of the samples were investigated using X-ray diffraction and FTIR studies. The results showed that the addition of BaTiO3 improved the density and mechanical properties of the glass, while reducing the photon transmission ability. The experimental results were consistent with the simulation results obtained using the FLUKA code.

Impact of silver ions on dielectric properties and conductivity of lithium silicate glass system mixed with red lead

T. V. N. Keerti Kut et al.

Summary: Glasses doped with different contents of Ag2O were fabricated and subjected to heat-treatment. The results showed increased connectivity of the glass network with increasing Ag2O content. The glass exhibited changes in dielectric parameters and relaxation properties as a function of Ag2O content. The presence of red lead was found to hinder the conductivity in the fast ion conducting glasses.

An experimental evaluation of CdO/PbO-B2O3 glasses containing neodymium oxide: Structure, electrical conductivity, and gamma-ray resistance

Hesham M. H. Zakaly et al.

Summary: A comprehensive set of experimental measurements were performed to investigate the influence of Nd3+ ions on the structure, electrical conductivity, and gamma-ray protection of CdO/PbO-B2O3 glasses. The results revealed that adding PbO affects the structure and conductivity of the glass, as well as its ability to attenuate gamma-rays. The Nd-4.0 glass sample exhibited the highest attenuation capability.

Influence of CaO on the structure of zinc sodium tetra borate glasses containing Cu2+ ions

G. Sangeetha et al.

Summary: A study on sodium tetra borate glasses doped with Cu2+ ions showed a decrease in density values with composition, revealing conversion of BO4 to BO3 units. EPR spectra analysis confirmed tetragonally distorted Cu2+ ions in octahedral sites, and N4 values from FTIR spectra supported the conversion of BO4 to BO3 units.
