Athermally enhanced recrystallization kinetics of ultra-low carbon steel via electric current treatment

Kyeongjae Jeong et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the athermal effect of electric current on the recrystallization kinetics of ultra-low carbon steel. The results show that electric current treatment enhances the degree of recrystallization, and the recrystallization kinetics exhibit a unique tendency to decrease and then increase with increasing electric current density. The athermal effect of the electric current on recrystallization can be evaluated and predicted.

Tuning the strength and ductility of near β titanium alloy Ti-5321 by ω and O′ intermediate phases via low-temperature aging

Bo Song et al.

Summary: In this study, the formation of intermediate phases omega and O' during low-temperature aging in a new-developed near beta-Ti alloy was investigated. It was found that the precipitation of omega and O' phases changed the deformation mechanisms and mechanical properties of the alloy, leading to a better combination of strength and ductility by tailoring the phase transformations.

Effects of electric current on the plastic deformation behavior of pure copper, iron, and titanium

C. Rudolf et al.

Summary: Uniaxial tension tests were conducted on pure polycrystalline copper, iron, and titanium specimens with varying current levels, showing non-thermal current effects in titanium but not in copper and iron. Potential mechanisms for the observed electrically-assisted deformation (EAD) effects in titanium were suggested, offering new avenues for research in understanding EAD of metals.

Electroshock treatment dependent microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of near-β titanium alloy manufactured by directed energy deposition

Haojie Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of electroshock treatment (EST) on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of near-beta titanium alloy formed by directed energy deposition. Results showed that EST can quickly alter the microstructure and mechanical properties of the material, improving ductility and reducing hardness through changes in the microstructure and lattice distortions.

Effects of heating rate on the alloy element partitioning and mechanical properties in equiaxed alpha-beta Ti-6Al-4V alloy

Jinhu Zhang et al.

Summary: The heating rate significantly influences the phase transformation, microstructure, and compositional distribution in Ti-6Al-4V alloy during solution treatment, with lower heating rates approaching equilibrium compositions. Increasing the heating rate can improve the mechanical properties of the alloy by adjusting the composition and volume fractions of different grains.

Thermodynamics and kinetics of hydriding and dehydriding reactions in Mg-based hydrogen storage materials

Qian Li et al.

Summary: Magnesium-based materials show promise as hydrogen storage candidates due to their high capacity, environmental friendliness, and high Clarke number characteristics. However, limited thermodynamic and kinetic properties have posed challenges for their engineering applications. Recent progress has focused on improving these properties through alloying, composite materials, and nanocrystallization, leading to enhanced hydrogen storage efficiency.
