Generalized stability criterion for controlling solidification segregation upon twin-roll casting

Pan Wu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a systematic framework that integrates non-equilibrium dendritic growth and overall solidification kinetics, and introduces a generalized stability (GS) concept derived from transient thermodynamic driving force AG t and transient kinetic energy barrier Q t eff. The framework allows for quantitatively controlling and optimizing segregation phenomena in twin-roll casting (TRC) process.

Quantitative determination of the generalized stability of Fe-based binary alloys

Zhigang Ding et al.

Summary: Our recent study proposed a unified generalized stability (GS) criterion to design high-performance metallic materials, and the quantitative determination of the GS of plasticity deformation remains a challenge. By combining molecular dynamics simulations with classical dislocation thermos-kinetic theory, we calculated the thermo-dynamics driving forces AG, kinetic energy barrier Q, and predicted the GS values of Fe-based binary alloys. The results showed that larger GS values correspond to a thermodynamically more unstable state with low plasticity.

Optimizing mechanical properties of magnesium alloys by philosophy of thermo-kinetic synergy: Review and outlook

Tianle Wang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a universal rule, the synergy of thermodynamics and kinetics, to deepen our understanding of common behaviors in lightweight magnesium alloys. Guided by the theory of generalized stability, typical cases for Mg alloy design are evaluated, and the potential capacity of this theory for guiding processing path design is discussed.

Thermo-kinetic connectivity by integrating thermo-kinetic correlation and

Yuqing He et al.

Summary: Designing structured materials involves engineering microstructures and considering the inherent trade-off relationship between thermodynamic driving force and kinetic energy barrier. By analyzing phase transformations and plastic deformations, unified expressions for thermo-kinetic correlation and generalized stability have been derived, leading to the prediction of the high AG-high GS criterion. This has significant implications for materials design.
