Summary: A simple strategy of one-pot radical polymerization was used to develop a conductive and antimicrobial self-healing hydrogel with organic-inorganic network, which is more suitable for practical production and application. The hydrogel, based on alkaline calcium bentonite (ACBt) and poly (acrylic acid) (PAA), achieved excellent mechanical properties and self-healing ability through the construction of organic-inorganic crosslinking networks. Furthermore, the hydrogel exhibited outstanding sensing ability and antibacterial activity, making it a potential flexible antibacterial material for real-time monitoring of human body movements.

Summary: Wearable electronic technology is an effective approach to overcome communication obstacles between signers and non-signers. However, the poor processability and matrix mismatch of hydrogels currently proposed as flexible sensor devices hinder their efficacy. In this study, a hydrogel composed of a rigid matrix with embedded polyaniline and quaternate-functionalized nucleobase moieties was developed. The resulting hydrogel exhibited promising conductivity and strain strength, and was fabricated into a strain-monitoring sensor for information encryption and sign language transmission.

Summary: Sign languages are used by deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals for daily communication, but there are still barriers when it comes to communication with hearing individuals due to limited knowledge about sign languages. The research on sign language translation aims to bridge this gap by producing spoken language translations of sign language videos or vice versa. This work reviews the literature on sign language translation, provides background information on sign languages, summarizes available datasets and research results, identifies challenges in SLT research and technology adoption, and proposes future research directions.

Summary: The choice of language is crucial in conflict resolution, as using a lingua franca rather than one's native tongue to present peace-building proposals can elicit higher levels of hatred and lower levels of sympathy, thereby reducing the perceived favorability of the proposal. These findings highlight the serious implications of seemingly innocuous language choices for conflict resolution and international diplomacy.

Summary: In this study, self-poled high-performance piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) were successfully fabricated through 3D printing by incorporating oriented ionic salt-montmorillonite (IS-MMT) co-fillers into a poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix. Additionally, a self-adaptive conformal PENG based on auxetic metamaterial was developed, showing beyond the practicability of traditional 2D PENGs. The tailored 3D printed cell with serpentine geometries of metamaterial exhibited high sensitivity to structure variation, making it beneficial for regulating piezoelectric output.

Summary: Hydrogels have gained extensive enthusiasm from researchers due to their versatility. The integration of various functional characteristics is crucial for stable performance in different environments. A multifunctional conductive polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) organohydrogel was developed by utilizing chestnut tannin as a crosslinking agent, nano-silver particles as an antimicrobial agent, and aluminum trichloride as a conducting medium. The PCAAG organohydrogel exhibited excellent physical and mechanical properties, bacteriostatic effects, and freeze resistance, making it suitable for various applications such as motion monitoring, flexible keyboards, and velocity sensing. Overall, the PCAAG organohydrogel shows remarkable potential in fields such as artificial intelligence, sport management, soft robots, and human-computer interface.

Summary: The surface of nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI) particles was coated with an aluminum hydroxide/polyacrylic acid (Al (OH)3/PAA) hybrid shell to overcome aggregation and surface passivation limitations, resulting in improved reactivity for Cr(VI) reduction. This coating provided electrostatic repulsion forces to hinder particle aggregation and thickened the reactive layer anchored on the surface for efficient reduction. XPS and TEM results indicated that the surface carboxylic groups enhanced the longevity of NZVI for surface reactions.
