Understanding the effects of surface roughness on the temperature and pressure relevancy of water contact angles

Jia-Wen Song et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of surface roughness on the temperature- and pressure-dependent water contact angles for 304 stainless steel. It is found that surface roughness has a significant impact on surface wettability at low temperatures and pressures, but its influence is limited at high temperatures and pressures.

Electrodeposited CuO thin film for wide linear range photoelectrochemical glucose sensing

Neville J. Cory et al.

Summary: In this study, a CuO thin film sensor was prepared using electrodeposition method for photo electrochemical glucose detection, showing good amperometric performance and a wide linear range under light conditions. The band gap of photoactive CuO thin film can be tuned by etching in NH3 solution, and the oxidation of glucose is found to be an irreversible electron transfer process controlled by diffusion.

Effects of O2 flux on structure, optical properties and hydrophobicity of highly emissive antireflective HfO2 thin films by magnetron sputtering

Ahmad Zahoor et al.

Summary: In this study, high emissive HfO2 thin films with thickness 300-500 nm were prepared using magnetron sputtering, and the effects of O2 flux on the structural, optical, and mechanical properties of the deposited thin films were investigated. The results showed that at an O2 flux of 30 sccm, the deposited HfO2 film exhibited excellent optical properties and hydrophobicity, making it suitable for high-performance optical coatings.

Morphology-dependent optical and wetting behavior of GLAD PTFE thin films

Rajnarayan De et al.

Summary: E-beam evaporation with GLAD arrangement was used to fabricate nanostructured PTFE films in a single-step coating process. The coatings showed enhanced water contact angle and improved optical transmittance with optimized deposition parameters. The study demonstrates the potential of highly transparent self-cleaning coatings for applications such as protecting cover glasses in solar panels.

Correlating hydrophobicity to surface chemistry of microstructured aluminium surfaces

L. Savio et al.

Summary: The study investigates highly hydrophobic aluminium surfaces fabricated by chemical etching using Contact Angle Goniometry, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy to correlate wettability with morphology and chemical composition. The etched aluminium surfaces exhibit binary structures with nanoscale block-like convexities and hollows, providing more space for air trapping. Results demonstrate that both hierarchical micro/nanostructures and surface composition contribute to excellent hydrophobic properties.

Angular distribution of ion beams energy and flux in a plasma focus device operated with argon gas

Mahsa Etminan et al.

Summary: The study focused on the energy and flux of ion beams in a Mather type (5 kJ) plasma focus device. Argon gas was used as the chamber gas, and the energy spectra and flux of ions from argon gas and different target ions were analyzed. The results showed different anisotropies for argon gas and target ions in terms of energy spectra obtained from Faraday cups.
