Superamphiphobic TiO2 Film by Sol-Gel Dip Coating Method on Commercial Pure Titanium

Mevra Aslan Cakir et al.

Summary: Oxide coatings with superhydrophobic and superoleophobic properties were obtained using the solgel dip-coating method on CP-Ti samples. The coated titanium samples were characterized using XRD, SEM, EDS, 3D optical profilometer, and optical tensiometer. Electrochemical corrosion experiments and in vitro cytotoxicity tests were performed to evaluate the electrochemical properties and biocompatibility of the coatings, respectively. The results showed that the resistance to corrosion current increased significantly due to the low free surface energy values of the superamphiphobic coating. The oxide-coated superamphihobic titanium surfaces exhibited improved biocompatibility after 24 hours, and the films had self-cleaning, antibacterial, and anticorrosion properties.

Bacterial Adhesion Strength on Titanium Surfaces Quantified by Atomic Force Microscopy: A Systematic Review

Juliana Dias Corpa Tardelli et al.

Summary: This review examines the factors determining the strength of bacterial adhesion on titanium surfaces and its alloys. The study demonstrates that the hydrophilicity of surfaces influences bacterial adhesion, but hydrophobic bacteria can also adhere to hydrophilic surfaces through hydrogen bonding. Additionally, surface treatments that reduce areas favorable for bacterial adhesion have a greater impact on biofilm formation than surface roughness. Time-dependent studies are crucial for evaluating bacterial colonization as bacteria develop adaptation mechanisms over time.

Corrosion Properties of Ceramic-Based TiO2 Films on Plasma Oxidized Ti6Al4V/316L Layered Implant Structured Manufactured by Selective Laser Melting

Hilmi Tekdir et al.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel biomaterial with duplex surface modification (metal additive manufacturing and plasma oxidizing). The results showed that plasma oxidized samples had higher corrosion resistance compared to untreated 316L and layered Ti6Al4V/316L samples. The optimal corrosion resistance was achieved under the parameter conditions of 750 degrees C and 4 hours.
