Recent progress in the development of RE2TMTM'O6 double perovskite oxides for cryogenic magnetic refrigeration

Lingwei Li et al.

Summary: Magnetic functional materials play a crucial role in our society and daily life. The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) is the foundation of solid-state magnetic refrigeration technology, which can improve the efficiency of cooling systems. Designing magnetic solids with excellent magnetocaloric performance is still an urgent task. This article summarizes recent progress in characterizing the crystal structure, magnetic properties, and cryogenic MCE of rare earth-based double perovskite oxides, and identifies some Gd-based oxides that exhibit promising cryogenic magnetocaloric performance.

Magnetic Properties of the Hexagonal Ferromagnet NdCrGe3 Showing Metamagnetic Transition and Negative Magnetocaloric Effect

Xiaojun Yang et al.

Summary: The single crystals of hexagonal ferromagnet NdCrGe3 with one-dimensional crystal structure exhibit large magnetic anisotropy and complex magnetic structure. Besides the ferromagnetic transition at T-C = 101 K, there are sharp decreases in magnetization at T = 55 K and two additional phase transitions at T = 31 and 15 K. Below T = 55 K, metamagnetic transitions and negative magnetocaloric effects are detected under H//ab. Critical properties around T-C = 101 K and anisotropic magnetocaloric effect are investigated in detail.
