Observation of uniaxial magnetic anisotropy and out-of-plane coercivity in W/Co20Fe60B20/W structures with high thermal stability

L. Saravanan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the development of uniaxial magnetic anisotropy and out-of-plane coercivity in W/CoFeB/W structures by tuning annealing temperature. The W and CoFeB interfaces play a crucial role in achieving large out-of-plane coercivity, especially at 400 degrees Celsius. XPS analysis confirms oxidation and release of boron atoms in CoFeB at higher annealing temperatures.

Exchange bias and magnetic anisotropies in Co nanowire/IrMn film heterostructures

C. H. Verbeno et al.

Summary: The morphological, structural, and magnetic properties of Co nanowire/IrMn film heterostructures are investigated in this study using atomic force microscopy, non-coplanar X-ray diffraction, and magnetization measurements. It is found that the thickness of the nanowires affects the magnetic phases, leading to changes in the exchange bias of the hysteresis loops. By considering dipolar interactions among the nanowires and using a modified polycrystalline model, the experimental hysteresis loops are successfully reproduced. The results highlight the importance of anisotropies and dipolar interactions in the coherent magnetization reversal processes observed.

Interfacial roughness driven manipulation of magnetic anisotropy and coercivity in ultrathin thulium iron garnet films

Viet Duc Duong et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the magnetic properties of thulium iron garnet (TmIG) thin films grown on gadolinium gallium garnet (GGG) substrates. We controlled the annealing temperature, thickness, and roughness of the films to achieve perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and large coercive field, important for non-volatile magnetic memory device applications. The results showed that the annealing temperature was a crucial parameter for controlling the film surface quality and engineering the direction of magnetic anisotropy. By further optimizing the film thickness, we achieved the best condition for PMA films.

Surface roughness effects on magnetic properties of thin films: A computational Monte Carlo study

Ahmad Al-Qawasmeh et al.

Summary: A computational approach using Monte Carlo simulation was used to investigate the effects of surface roughness on the critical and hysteresis behaviors of Heisenberg ferromagnetic thin films. It was found that increasing the structural disorder level above a certain threshold increases the system's critical temperature, and increasing surface roughness significantly increases the area of the magnetic hysteresis loop, thereby increasing the coercivity of the thin magnetic film.

Sense current dependent coercivity and magnetization relaxation in Gd-Fe-Co Hall bar

Ramesh Chandra Bhatt et al.

Summary: Understanding the characteristics of a magnetic layer in different environments is crucial for spintronics applications. This study investigates a potential Hall device of MgO-capped Hf/GdFeCo bilayer for magnetization relaxation at nucleation fields under different voltage probe line widths and dc sensing currents. The coercivities of the Hall loops decrease with increasing sense current, with probe B showing a sharper drop attributed to current shunting and pinning sites. Domain wall velocities are smaller for probe B due to pinning sites and Joule heating effects. The notch position in the pattern suggests domain wall propagation from probe B to probe A in the current channel.

Irradiation Effects on Perpendicular Anisotropy Spin-Orbit Torque Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

Mahshid Alamdar et al.

Summary: The study found that SOT PMA MTJs are radiation-hard at low doses but exhibit degraded magnetic performance at high doses due to increased intermixing of layers. Modeling suggests that layers close to the bottom heavy metal and substrate are more susceptible to damage.
