Yulei Chang et al.

Summary: Fluorescence imaging in the near-infrared region is enhanced by the use of a Tm3+ -based nanoprobe for NIR-IIb/c imaging that provides references for future bioimaging above 1700nm. The study presents a type of thulium (Tm) self-sensitized rare-earth-doped nanocrystals (RENCs) fluorescence probe that emits bright downshifting luminescence at 1600-2100 nm for in vivo bioimaging. The results suggest that Tm-based NPs as NIR-IIb/c nanoprobes offer new opportunities for future applications in diverse fields.

Novel transparent MgGa2O4 and Ni2+-doped MgGa2O4 ceramics

Guangran Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, transparent ceramics of magnesium gallate (MgGa2O4), both undoped and doped with 1 at% Ni, were fabricated for the first time. The specimens were produced from in-house prepared powder and densified by pulsed electric current sintering. Doping with Ni was found to marginally improve the densification level and transparent specimens with high transmission were obtained. The absorption spectra revealed the presence of Ni2+ as the dopant in the octahedral sites of the lattice.
