Effect of laser fluence and charge compensation defects on photoreduction of Eu ions in KSrPO4 crystal using a UV laser

Masaya Tsuta et al.

Summary: In our previous study, we found that Eu ions in KSrPO4 can be reduced from trivalent to divalent by irradiation with a Nd:YVO4 nanosecond laser at a wavelength of 266 nm, a phenomenon known as photoreduction. We investigated the effects of laser fluence and charge compensation defects on photoreduction to model the process. Our results suggest that the photoreduction process involves a two-photon process, with the excitation of [Eu3+-O2-] charge transfer and charge transfer from a Sr vacancy to the conduction band. Additionally, the presence of certain metal ions can affect the amount of reduced Eu ions.

Data Storage in a Nanocrystalline Mixture Using Room Temperature Frequency-Selective and Multilevel Spectral Hole-Burning

Nicolas Riesen et al.

Summary: Tailoring the effective inhomogeneous line width and line shape through a physical mixture of chemically different matlockite nanocrystals enables broad fluorescence emission line with a top-hat distribution for multiple spectral holes burning at diffraction limit and room temperature, offering the potential for higher optical data densities.
