Mechanistic Insights into the Charge Transfer Dynamics of Photocatalytic Water Oxidation at the Lipid Bilayer-Water Interface

Leif Hammarstroem et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of embedding a photocatalytic system in liposome membranes on the mechanism of photocatalytic water oxidation. Spectroscopic tools reveal that static quenching is the main outcome of the oxidative quenching reaction in liposomes, while dynamic quenching occurs in homogeneous systems. Additionally, the charge separation efficiency is significantly lower in liposomes compared to homogeneous solutions. The hole transfer rate in liposomes is also slower. These findings are important for the future optimization of light-driven catalysis within self-assembled lipid interfaces.

Apigenin and its dermatological applications: A comprehensive review

Pantea Majma Sanaye et al.

Summary: This article provides an overview of the effects of apigenin on different dermatological complications and highlights its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Preclinical studies suggest that apigenin has beneficial effects on skin aging, vitiligo, dermatitis, wounds, and certain types of skin cancer. However, there is a lack of clinical studies evaluating the use of apigenin as a natural supplement for skin conditions.

Antioxidative Properties and Chemical Changes of Quercetin in Fish Oil: Quercetin Reacts with Free Fatty Acids to Form Its Ester Derivatives

Shaojun Liu et al.

Summary: Quercetin demonstrates inhibitory effects on lipid oxidation in fish oil, but its efficacy decreases over prolonged heating time. Through reacting with unsaturated fatty acids, quercetin forms esters with enhanced cellular antioxidant activity, despite weaker radical scavenging ability. These findings suggest potential benefits of using quercetin as a dietary polyphenol to combat lipid oxidation.

Electron Spin Resonance Evaluation of Buccal Membrane Fluidity Alterations by Sodium Caprylate and L-Menthol

Laxmi Shanthi Chede et al.

Summary: The study investigated the fluidizing effects of sodium caprylate and l-menthol on phospholipid bilayers mimicking the buccal epithelium, using ESR to evaluate their roles as permeation enhancers. Both agents showed fluidization effects on the lipid bilayer, with sodium caprylate having a stronger effect than l-menthol, which only affected the inner acyl regions of the bilayer. The rapid evaluation of bilayer fluidity using ESR enables effective selection of permeation enhancers based on their impact on membrane fluidization.
