Interactions of neurokinin B with copper(ii) ions and their potential biological consequences

Kamila Stokowa-Soltys et al.

Summary: This study investigates the coordination between neurokinin B (NKB) and Cu(ii) in preeclampsia. The results show that the interaction between NKB and Cu(ii) weakens in the presence of SDS, which may serve as a molecular switch for specific Cu(ii) delivery to membrane receptors. Additionally, the calculations based on clinical data suggest a potential toxic role of Cu(ii)NKB in preeclampsia development.

Characterization of an Antibacterial Agent Targeting Ferrous Iron Transport Protein FeoB against Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-Positive Bacteria

Minhye Shin et al.

Summary: The study identified a novel inhibitor, GW3965·HCl, targeting FeoB in Staphylococcus aureus, which effectively inhibited bacterial growth and virulence factor expression, demonstrating promising antibacterial activity in both in vitro and in vivo assays. Additionally, GW3965·HCl also showed effectiveness in inhibiting FeoB activity and growth of Gram-positive bacteria, suggesting potential for developing next-generation antibacterial therapies.

Coordination of Redox Ions within a Membrane-Binding Peptide: A Tale of Aromatic Rings

Riqiang Fu et al.

Summary: This study utilizes solid-state NMR to investigate the metal-binding of the ATCUN motif in the host-defense peptide P1. The research reveals that under metalation, H3 and the neighboring H4 in P1 populate only a specific tautomer, and cation-pi interactions between the aromatic rings of F1/F2/H4 and metal are observed.

Thermodynamics and structural characterization of the nickel(ii) and zinc(ii) complexes of various peptide fragments of tau protein

Bettina Diana Balogh et al.

Summary: Nickel(ii) and zinc(ii) complexes of various peptide fragments of tau protein were studied and it was found that the histidyl residues of the N-terminal and R3 regions can effectively bind these ions. Nickel(ii) ions promote deprotonation and coordination in alkaline solutions, forming square planar complexes, while zinc(ii) hydrolysis can be promoted by the adjacent histidines of the R3 domain.
