Summary: Poly(Glycidyl methacrylate)/Fe3O4-GO nanocomposite (PFG) and Poly(Glycidyl methacrylate)-GO nanocomposite (PG) were prepared as reusable adsorbents for methylene blue dye (MB) adsorption. Characterization of PFG and PG was conducted to understand their structural, thermal, magnetic, morphological and compositional properties. The adsorption of MB on PFG and PG was studied by investigating pH, contact time, adsorbent dosage, temperature, and dye concentration. Both PFG and PG showed good fits with pseudo second order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm for adsorption. PFG exhibited a higher maximum adsorption capacity for MB compared to PG due to the presence of Fe3O4, making it a super-paramagnetic material suitable for efficient recovery and reusability.

Summary: The eco-friendly treatment of complex textile and dyeing wastewaters is a pressing environmental concern. This study examined an approach that utilizes different treatment paths and integrated anaerobic-aerobic processes to treat high-strength and recalcitrant textile dyeing wastewaters. The results showed that polyaluminum chloride precoagulation was effective in removing over 97% of suspended solids (SS) and more than 70% of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in the suede fabric dyeing stream. Hydrolysis pretreatment also proved successful in removing up to 58% of COD and 83% of SS in other low-strength streams. Additionally, the integrated anaerobic-aerobic treatment achieved notable COD removal of up to 99% from high-strength wastewaters. The anaerobic granular sludge process demonstrated several advantageous attributes, including high feed loading, a smaller footprint, minimal sludge production, and good stability. Overall, the integrated anaerobic-aerobic treatment provides a robust and viable option for highly contaminated and recalcitrant textile dyeing wastewaters.
