Change in the Electronic Environment of the VOx Active Center via Support Modification to Enhance Hg Oxidation Activity

Woonsuk Yeo et al.

Summary: Density functional theory calculations were performed to investigate the change in Hg oxidation reactivity caused by support tuning methods, and to elucidate the change in the electronic environment at the active site. The phase control to the TiO2 support was found to improve the Hg oxidation activity, while the reduction treatment decreased the activity due to the change in charge density at V2O5. Furthermore, the interaction between the V site and surface Cl was found to critically contribute to the change in Hg oxidation reactivity.

Structure-Directing Role of Support on Hg-0 Oxidation over V2O5/TiO2 Catalyst Revealed for NOx and Hg-0 Simultaneous Control in an SCR Reactor

Jianqiang Shi et al.

Summary: The crystal structure of TiO2 significantly affects the catalytic performance of supported active sites. In this study, different crystal forms of TiO2 were synthesized and used as supports for V2O5-based catalysts for Hg-0 oxidation. The results showed that V2O5/TiO2-B exhibited the highest Hg-0 oxidation efficiency due to its lower redox temperature, larger HCl adsorption capacity, and more oxygen vacancies. The study also suggested that a combination of anatase and brookite TiO2-supported vanadyl tandem catalysts should be employed in the SCR reactor for simultaneous removal of NOx and Hg-0.

Boosting nitrous oxide direct decomposition performance based on samarium doping effects

Hao Liu et al.

Summary: A series of Sm-doped Co3O4 catalysts were synthesized by the sol-gel method, with Sm significantly enhancing the N2O decomposition activity. The incorporation of Sm distorted the Co3O4 lattice and promoted oxygen vacancy generation, leading to a redox cycle between Co and Sm species. In situ Raman and in situ NAP-XPS results indicated that this redox cycle is the main reason for the accelerated N2O decomposition efficiency with Sm doping.
