Defect enhanced CoMnNiOx catalysts derived from spent ternary lithium-ion batteries for low-temperature propane oxidation

Ganggang Li et al.

Summary: A feasible strategy was reported to develop efficient CoMnNiOx catalysts for propane oxidation using waste ternary lithium-ion batteries (TLIBs) as precursors. The defect enhanced-CoMnNiOx catalyst showed a low activation temperature for propane oxidation, which was achieved by increasing oxygen vacancy defects. Additionally, the defect enhancement improved the reducibility, acidity, and lattice oxygen mobility of the catalyst, thereby enhancing the catalytic activity. This study is of great significance for the development of green and efficient catalysts for VOCs oxidation.

Mechanochemistry-induced recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries for synergistic treatment of mixed cathode powders

Youzhou Jiang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a mechanochemistry-based process to efficiently recover metal resources from waste cathode materials of spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The mechanochemical reactions destroyed the crystal structures of the waste cathode materials and converted them into amorphous states, allowing for the synchronous generation and conversion of recyclable materials under optimized experimental conditions. Using a stoichiometric acid dosage, a high selectivity in the extraction of Li and Co from leaching residues was achieved. The study demonstrates a green and efficient recycling process for different metals from spent LIBs.
