Potential of Ligand-Promoted Dissolution at Mild pH for the Selective Recovery of Rare Earth Elements in Bauxite Residues

This study investigated an alternative method for recovering rare earth elements (REEs) through soft and selective dissolution protocols. The results showed that citric acid and tartaric acid exhibited satisfactory dissolution of REEs, while heavy REEs remained largely undissolved.

The enrichment or depletion of Si, Al, Fe, and Ti elements in the lateritic horizons indicates complex chemical changes in the evolution of the profile.

Characteristics and genesis of ion adsorption type REE deposits in the weathering crusts of metamorphic rocks in Ningdu, Ganzhou, China

Summary: Numerous ion adsorption type rare earth element (REE) deposits have been discovered in the weathering crusts of granitic and volcanic rocks, but recently, for the first time, such deposits were found in the weathering crusts of metamorphic rocks in Ningdu County, China. The research indicates that hydrothermal fluids play a crucial role in introducing REEs and providing materials for mineralization in the weathering crusts of metamorphic rocks. The low permeability of the weathered products causes a short migration distance for water medium carrying REE ions, and the ore bodies in the weathering crusts of metamorphic rocks are primarily located in the middle and upper parts of the completely weathered horizon.

How Raw and Gypsum Modified Bauxite Residues Affect Seed Germination, Enzyme Activities, and Root Development of Sinapis alba

Summary: This study investigated the impact of different bauxite residues on the germination and growth of white mustard, finding that the origin, modification, and concentration of the residues significantly affected the root development, enzymatic activities, and phytotoxicity of Sinapis alba. The PRO residue exhibited stronger phytotoxic effects compared to GUI residue, and gypsum application partially alleviated the toxic effects while still resulting in negative impacts on various variables.

The Potential for REE and Associated Critical Metals in Karstic Bauxites and Bauxite Residue of Montenegro

Summary: Research on Montenegrin bauxites and bauxite residue suggests that they could be potential sources of critical raw materials due to their content of rare earth elements and other critical elements. The study also indicates promising levels of LREEs compared to HREEs, as well as potential enrichment in Ti, V, Zr, Nb, Sr, and Ga. Additionally, the contents of Zr, Sr, V, Sc, La, Ce, Y, Ti, and Nb in bauxite residue are found to be higher than those in raw bauxites, making them possible sources of CRMs.
