A New Vs-Based Liquefaction-Triggering Procedure for Gravelly Soils

Kyle M. Rollins et al.

Summary: Traditional in situ penetration testing is problematic for liquefaction assessment in gravelly soils. Probabilistic liquefaction-triggering curves based on shear-wave velocity provide an alternative method. This study develops new probabilistic triggering curves for gravel liquefaction and introduces a magnitude scaling factor curve for different earthquake magnitudes.

Monotonic, Cyclic, and Postcyclic Responses of an Alluvial Plastic Silt Deposit

Amalesh Jana et al.

Summary: This study investigates the monotonic, cyclic, and postcyclic response of a medium stiff, plastic, lightly-overconsolidated, alluvial clayey silt deposit. The results show that cyclic resistance is affected by overconsolidation, with reconstituted specimens exhibiting lower cyclic resistance compared to natural specimens. Various test methods were used to determine the postcyclic volumetric strain under different conditions.

Liquefaction resistance of christchurch sandy soils from direct simple shear tests

Claudio Cappellaro et al.

Summary: The study focuses on investigating the liquefaction resistance of sandy soils from Christchurch, New Zealand, specifically looking at the combined effects of soil density and fines content. Differences were observed between two host sands in terms of sensitivity to cyclic liquefaction resistance and the effects of fines addition on liquefaction resistances. The results showed reasonably consistent liquefaction resistances relative to estimates from empirical CPT-based liquefaction triggering relationships for soils containing up to 30% fines.
