MXene-based aptasensor for the detection of aflatoxin in food and agricultural products

Summary: Detection of food toxins requires sensitive and selective techniques to prevent economic loss. Nanostructured material-enabled biosensors have been developed to improve the detection of food toxins, particularly aflatoxin. Biosensor-based detection of aflatoxin is quick, affordable, and requires less skilled personnel compared to conventional techniques. MXenes and aptamers are promising elements for biosensing, offering biocompatibility, mechanical strength, selectivity, and ease of synthesis. This review explores the latest aptamer-based MXene-enabled biosensing technologies for detecting mycotoxins in food and environmental samples, discussing synthesis processes, computational approaches, and future potential. The advantages of aptasensors over conventional methods are highlighted, along with their limitations. The review emphasizes the benefits of next-generation MXene-enabled biosensing technologies in terms of simplicity, sensitivity, and selectivity, as well as their economic/commercial potential. Challenges and a roadmap for developing advanced biosensing technologies are also discussed.

Investigation of Twelve Significant Mycotoxin Contamination in Nut-Based Products by the LC-MS/MS Method

Summary: The structure of vesicles formed by DMPC liposomes externally conjugated with branched polyglycerol-dendrons and linear PEG in water solution was simulated using the DPD method. It was found that modification of the liposome's outer surface with hydrophilic dendrons has little effect on the vesicle's size and shape, as well as the lipid membrane's morphology, until certain critical thresholds are exceeded.

The sensor shows excellent linear response to AfB1 within the range of 0.2-6.0 ng/mL, with a detection limit of 0.09 ng/mL and high selectivity. The innovative method has been successfully applied for AfB1 determination in real samples such as peanut, corn, and chicken feed, with recoveries over 80% and RSD lower than 10%.
